To use as rub strips...?
Frank,
I used a 1-inch wide x 3/16" thick nylon tape used by electricians to pull wire through conduits under my FIFTEEN tank. At the time, I was working in a hydroelectric plant and this stuff was laying around everywhere so I "borrowed" some of it. I looked in McMaster Carr but don't see it there, however, if you go to an electrical jobber supply house, they probably can put you in the right track.

Any job site where electric wire is going underground, use it once and in the dumpster. SIL that digs ditch and puts conduit in always has left over pieces on his truck,as power company only wants whole pieces used. The name he uses is "mule tape"don't know how universal that is.

I have found the original parts for my Cat Ten fuel tank including the strips under the tank and the elbows. The strips under the tank are 4" long and 1-1/8" wide x 4ea and are cotton webbing. I found kerosene lantern wick is the same as the strips and can be bought in most any length.. Ebay and/or some hardware stores carry the right widths.
The elbows are a bit harder to find.
I hope this helps...........
Have a good evening.............Bill

In the 44 years I worked construction it was called mule tape most everywhere in the country. It comes in at least 3 different sizes up to 1,700 lb strength. I use it elk hunting all the time for hanging stuff.

MARCOTEN,
The location of the drain hole is right dead center of a cylinder bore. You will not be able to get a temperature bulb to go in.

Bill,
When I took my tank off, only two straps were under the tank. There was no sign of a pad L 1396. Maybe at one time, some one made straps which wrapped around the tank but using the same material as the L 1338 straps shown in the parts book. Do I understand that yours only had 4-inch long strap on the corners? When going together this week, as I noted above, I wrapped the tank with the "muletape" (printed on it was Herculine P2300W) which I think will be fine for a non-working tractor.

Yea Pat thats tru, a sensor can only go in a little bit.
On non of the machines i have, i found this material under the tanks, and didn't put anything under it as i didn't know it was used, next time i have one tank off of machine i will put the cotton straps under it first. good tip !!

The scan is from Cat Ten Parts Book Form 4863 for machines PT-1 toPT4929 inclusive
This is where I got my information. I would say there are different "Pads" used at different times and for different Cat machines.
Hope this helps explain what I was trying to show and not muddy the waters to much..........
Have a good evening.....Bill
PS......I used two longer strips as I had plenty of material.

All,
I am sorry but I got my FIFTEEN and TWENTY tanks mixed up. My previous post with parts numbers is for the Big TWENTYs. Please forgive me and disregard. Also right now I am in the process of mounting the tank on the TWENTY so it is what I am currently thinking about!
I did use the same material in two strips across the bottom of my FIFTEEN tank rather than use just short strips. It gives the tank plenty of cushioning.
Just getting old and more confused I guess!
