Replied by frankcolvin on topic fitting the cam gear
Cleaned off the camshaft end. Have a new key, New gear w/ complete teeth to go on. Tight fit. I have been told to heat the gear in an oil bath. At about 200 degrees F. should have expand enough to slip over camshaft.

I have positioned the camshaft with the key way up while indexing the crankshaft and cam gears prior to rotating.

Anyone else out there has done this?

Frank

Replied by frankcolvin on topic Governor Gear
Old gears to be replaced. Wonder if the governor weights went to far and caught on the housing and caused a lock-up that broke the teeth?

After I get the camshaft gear on tomorrow I hope.
I plan to attach the Governor Gear.
Anyone have photos of how the governor weights go on correctly and what they work/ act on to adjust/move the throttle linkage?

I've heated gears and bearings before putting them on. Can work very well at times.

I use a the old deep fryer from the kitchen (deep fried food isnt any good for us these days or so Im told) and fill it with a hydraulic gear oil just sit what I need to make bigger in there and heat for half a hour or so and things just slip straight on I think it heats up to about 200 C which is fairly hot but the gears and or bearings dont discolour at all and I have never had a problem
And if its going to be a tight fit I chuck the shaft or what ever the smaller part is in the deep freeze the day before works like a treat no belting with a hammer nothing

Oh yeah wear welding gloves would hate to get burned from the hot oil I reckon it would be a bad burn I remember a kid I wont to school with got real badly burnt at a young age huge scars up his arms terrible thing so be careful
