Is there such a thing as shop manual for the Cat Ten published by Caterpillar?
Perhaps just for distributors and dealers who were authorized to do major repairs?
I have both the operators and parts manuals on pdf.

The owner of the Cat Ten wants it to look as close as it can to its 1929 model year. Recieved magneto to replace later year Bosch types that are inopperable.

I hate to tell you but that is not the right mag. You should have a GV4 which is a little different where it couples to the mag drive.

The mag in frankcolvin's picture is a GV4. It has an IS5 type impluse on it. The cover may even be correct for an early IS5. I have seen a few of this type front covers on a GV mags before. I have three of them with this cover and they might have been used with the variable breaker box mags. The upper mag in Brewzers picture is a GL4 with an IS5 impluse and the lower is a GV4 with an IS6 impluse starter. Depending on the date the tractor was built it could have had either a G4 3rd edition or a GV4. The Eisemann service manual says that the G3 3rd edition was "Supplanted by GV4 since 1929" Which of the mags to uses on the Thirties and Sixties is easy, the serial number breaks are listed in the parts book. The L/PL Twenty is a little harder because a serial number breaks is not directly listed for the change but after having looked at the Twenty parts book for way to long over the couple of months I found this little tidbit at the bottom of one of the pages. "5F3908 Magneto (Bosch MJB) Serial No. PL3528 to PL6319 Inclusive and L1765 to L1970 Inclusive. When replacement of complete 1A295 (Eisemann GV4) is required order 1- 5F3908 magneto," etc. My reading of that is the GV4 was used on PL3528 to PL6319 and L1765 to L1970 with the G4 3rd being used on L1 to L1764 and PL1 to PL3527. I have not looked at the Ten or the PV Fifteen parts books in a while as I am currently studing the L/PL Twenties.

Almost all of the GV4s I have seen on early cats have the Eismann dust covers on them or just missing. Is this because of the impulse you mentioned above? Can a GV4 be fitted with different impulses? Just trying to educate myself on these mags.

I will look at it closely this weekend and compare to parts manual.
Am trying to get clutch fork loose so I can get the clutch pac and engine off.

Bolts are out. Used two wobble extensions to get the right angle and leverage.
How do you slide the clutch fork shaft off the fork?

Drive a wedge down into the clamp to break the tension on the shaft, then work the shafts out from it. Remember, they will be keyed so it takes some tapping with a rod and hammer to get those apart.
Actually I assume you are pulling the engine to get the clutch out?
In which case, unhook the clutch pedal so the shaft will pivot freely, pull the engine away, jiggle it up and down as you go. The shaft should pivot enough to let the clutch free.
I know that I have those parts all assembled when I put the engines in, reaching in there to align the throwout bearing stubs into the fork. I've down 3 TENS which means I'm pretty sure I am right.
