Yes, I imagine that would be quite a shock to a couple of aerospace retirees.
It would be best to use TDTO T4 spec oil in the main clutch instead of engine oil unless matching original 30wt. They claim modern engine oil is to slick for clutch application.

Hi Team,
here are the capacities from my 20A grey OMI book Form No31849-5, dated 08/61.
Also be sure to clean the breathers on all compartments so equipped.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

having some issues with the main clutch
it snaps in nice but after it warms up a bit maybe 20 min
its not pulling good still moves but takes off slow
do you think it could be low on oil or do you think it needs a clutch adjustment ?
i want to get this loader working for this summer
thanks all comments welcome

Hi Team,
scans below should help. Yes, they are for a U series D6--the 977 is basically a D6 with bucket frame attached.
It will have D6 undercarriage as fitment of the upgraded D7 undercarriage came in at S/No 20A2509 and up.
The 977 20A was released in 1955--coincidentally Cat do not use year built dates to order parts etc. They use strictly Serial Numbers--as evidenced by the undercarriage upgrade at 20A 2509 up.
As an example only, if you ordered 20A undercarriage parts, without giving a S/No, you could get the wrong parts.
Master Clutch Oil level dipstick/filler are at right rear engine mount.
M/C is a mechanical clutch running in oil so does not use oil pressure to operate the clutch.
Oil pump in there is for lubrication/cooling only--check pump suction screen at lower rear clutch housing area for debris etc. when you are changing the oil.
Be very careful tensioning up the lock nuts on the flywheel clutch locks as all components are soft iron--not high tensile hardware and so threads are easily to strip or snap the stud--major work to rectify snapped stud--stud can/maybe be re-threaded to a smaller size in-situ but is not easy.
You should also check the steering clutch linkage free play.
As with mechanical auto/truck clutches, as the steering clutches wear the linkage free play is used up and so must be adjusted back into the linkage system or the clutches can/will slip when loaded.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.
