Man, if that's what the radiator looks like, what's in the water jackets?!

Wowza.... some serious dirt in there..... got clean her out so she can start to use those fins for some cooling.... Great job on getting her straightened out... I know first hand these big girls need a lot of love.... I ran my d9g yesterday and she started getting a little hot... I will do a couple things to her as well... Your sprocket teeth look a little straight and one is missing a chunk of metal out of it.... You know that took a bite out of her to do that.... Might need to replace the sprockets... But one thing at a time... Been there done that.... But boy when she works she can work.... It is worth it anyway..... Cheers and keep up the good work....

Yeah, need to find out why the chunk first. no point changing anything as it will just damage the new one. These have a bit more life in them yet.

Worn "snakey" rails will chip the sprockets out when turning sharp.

Noted, however the rails on this thing are pretty good. This is the other side to the pin and bushes we did.

As long as it cools efficiently then ignorance is bliss haha. I'll run it back up and up go over it with the thermal gun. The tractor had coolant in it when i got it, however someone had stolen the water temp probe so it was only half full, maybe the moisture upset the top radiator tank.

I've been into where the trans and oil cooler attach to the block and it's pretty good in there.

Hooked a heap of the snot out. Some of the tubes at the end have been silver soldered (must have leaked at some stage) but apart from that only about 10 are fully blocked and i couldn't clear.

Gaskets should get here this week and she can go back together and flushed out for another go.

Got the radiator back in. We cursed we swore, we threatend with the scrap yard and eventually got it in. Lining the top cowling bolts up isn't a fun job.

Filled it up with water and gave it a workout for an hour or so. Temp guage went straight to the middle and stayed there.

Dropped the water and filled it back up with green potion.

Next job check out that sprocket....

The water pressure should have been close to the yellow.

Yeah i didn't connect that gauge in the end. I don't have the graduated water temp gauge so it's not really necessary.

I might revisit it. Else i just leave it in the dash to fill a hole.

Do you have a fuel shut off valve for the starting engine?

Yeah, it leaked and the replacement from caterpillar was rather expensive, so i have a motorbike fuel tap screwed straight into the bottom of the pony tank. I just have to reach around behind to turn it on and off.

I’m sorry but the “rather expensive” gave me a good chuckle 🤭

Keep up the good work 👍

I picked up a new fuel shutoff valve from Cat for my D2 - it's the one that sits next to the pinion control levers on the left side. That might be an approximation for your D9 valve on the dash. It is just a valve with an inlet NPT fitting at the back, and an "olive" connection on the top side that goes up to the carb

Cheers,

This is an assembly that screws onto the fuel tank with a small glass bowl and a kind of a brass needle and seat valve that screws in and out with a knob from the dash.

It was going to be a few hundred dollars to replace when i looked at it at the time. Finding an NPT fuel tap was tricky over here, so i got one out of the states for $50.
