There was a discussion on "ROPS" not to long ago(page 3 or so back) about putting one on a D2.
Turned into a "Can of Worms" discussion!
Anyways if it was a available, I would use schedule 80, if not I would use good schedule 40(seamless) not that cheap chinese crap they sell at the "Big Box Stores"!
Good Luck!

Mounting holes to the fuel tank???? Are you sure those aren't for light mounting brackets?

Hi Team,
OM is correct, they are for mounting light brackets and only 3/8" UNC from memory.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

ok today we got down to the brake bands

really just looking at them they seem to have some adjustment left ,theirs only about 3/8th to 1/2 inch of threads showing above the adjustment nut
and the band looks pretty thick on the part i can see

ther was a huge storm that blowed up and had to cover everything and put all the tools up
so ill be on it again in the morning

cheers
charlie

well i got on it but it didnt work out so good i got the top locking nut off with little effort however the other lock nut was frozen fast i did squirt it down with some kroil
but it was rusted on .i had the impact on it but it didnt even budge with 500flbs of toque so i figured i could get it to move with a cheater bar it moved alright.it felt like it broke loose so i went to turning it with the ratchet it had broken off .i did try to turn it both ways to loosen it up
so now i have to fab up or buy another break band T bolt heres some pics of how bad the day went right after breaking the adjuster.
any ideas on how to fix this ? should i buy another break band and just tear it apart and put it in .maybe do both bands while i have it torn down to this stage?
how much trouble to re do both over fixing just one .ideas ideas i need this machine to operate thanks for any and all input

This is where 20/20 hind sight would have given the Kroil a few days to soak and proper application of heat.

Now its time to remove the bands, sorry haven't done it on a machine like this so no good advise from me.

Well your in for a real treat....but it is possible to remove the brake band in sections using the access hole under the tractor.

i didn't know there was an access hole under the machine that's good info .if i buy a new brake band will it come with the broken bolt i need
or is that a separate part ?

thanks Steve and of coarse old magnet you seem to have all the info on these old cats.
i expected to have a lil trouble with this machine but i opted for the cat over a bobcat type machine because of the durability
these old cats still have alot of life left in them and can do alot more heavy lifting/pushing than a lil bobcat
mines a 62 model that makes this machine 52 years old
hell i bet there are not many bobcats 20 years old and i would like to see one when it turns 50 do half the work that my cat can do.

i did think about heating it up but there was not really much rust on the top bolt i thought that might be the case with the lock nut .
as u can see in the pic its not to bad looking

Old Magnet do u have a part number for the band and related parts ?
i guess ill get on the phone to off road equipment in Tenn

I have the parts book, what is the s/n of your loader?

With Cat, everything is a separate part.
