Current recommendation would be Transmission Drive Train Oil (TDTO-4) spec in a SAE 30.
Meant for clutch applications where motor oil is to slick.

hi all

i went down and bought 5 gal of sae 30wt oil . with the help of a friend his name is Toad , we headed over to tackle this job . Toad suggested we check the oil level first and i thought that was a good idea as we had 5 gal and didnt know
how much we needed . the book called for 4.25 gal to fill it up . o and the Manuel came in last night i was expecting it to be here on the 28th .anyway i have the Manuel in hand thanks Ol Magnet for getting me lined out on the right Manuel it has all the info i need in it.
so we get the truck loaded up the torches and all the tools we think we need get over there the loader is in a hay field the grass is i guess 3 feet tall i have a lil flat deck trailer i do all my hauling on . not the loader its to heavy but cars lumber i mean anything i need to haul this lil trailer dose it it had 3500lb axles so 7k is what i can legally carry . i put the trailer right next to the loader track i mean it was almost touching it and we worked off of the trailer so as not to have to climb up and down 100 times . anyway we laid out all our gear and got to work . first issue was the floor plate after we got all the bolts out of the left side floor plate we noticed the center plate just had a lil handle we could turn and pull the middle plate right out exposing the clutch cover dip stick and the fill hole . we had to get some channel locks on the dipstick to turn it and break it loose its been a while since it was checked .i do remember filling the transmission up when i was getting it ready to work last year but i dont remember filling up the clutch housing . im sure i checked it because i had all the floor plates out and it was right there . well anyway we pulled the dipstick out and not a drop of oil on it
next we had to get the fill hole plug out . it was the big allen or hex head like 1 !/4 inch i dont have any allen wrenches that big nor have i ever seen one lol . we had to dig a bunch of crap out of the hole but then i found a nut in the tool box that fit down in it perfectly. so just busted out the ol impact sockets and found a 1.1/4 inch socket got it busted loose stuck the funnel in it and started pouring in the 5 gal of oil

we got the oil in and put it back together and fired it up . we let her warm up for about 10 mins while we got a drink and hoped for the best. really the worst case we would have to drain the oil back out if it was still slipping when we started using the clutch . but she warmed up nicley and i hopped on and backed down the hill to the pile i had been working on and went to pushing on it again . it wsa pulling hard i pushed till the tractor was almost on a 45 degree incline well it was still trying to pull but i had lost traction at that point the tracks were still moving tho . so i think we have it fixed its working again .im going to keep an eye on the oil level in the clutch housing for sure . im really normally good about greasing and checking engine oil watching the gauges to make sure its not overheating im really going to check it out good i may have a bad seal or something that oil should not burn off or get used up i wouldn't say ..anyway its fixed with only filling up the oil .

im going to go run this afternoon before it gets dark and we are going to burn up the pile we made last weekend ill try to get some pictures of the damage thanks again

well fellas

we oiled it up and tested it out and it pulled fine

i went back this afternoon and did some pushing about 2 hours worth and made a lil pile up
but at the end it started slipping again so i guess the last thing to do is get down in there and adjust the clutch if their is any adjustment left
its pulled really good since i have owned it pushing trees digging dirt . i even pushed a georgia power truck out of my field once when they got stuck
cutting tree limbs

the oil really improved it pulling a lot
i wonder how much i need to move the pressure plate to make it hold fast again .the Manuel only says adjust clockwise until their is 35 lbs of pull on the clutch leaver

Hi all
Well im out here working in the ol cat its a nice day a bit windy but 75 degrees or so . I have the inspection cover off and working on loosining the lock ring nuts . I took a picture of the clutch it apears that their is about 6 or 7 threads left to go on the adjustment .im going to make a full rotation on the adjusting ring and then see how it feels..it looks like someone hsa drilled some dimples for the locking plate to seat in. On the adjusting ring . How much should i turn it to make it tight again . It does not say in the Manuel just says turn clockwise.this will be my first clutch adjustment of this kind .

After you loosen the lock nut about 2 turns tap on plate sligtly to be sure it is free on stud and rotate 180 dégré loosen the other locknut the same manner and turn the adjusting ring clockwise approximately 3 inchs to tighten and tighten the lucknut to 30 pounds feets and try to angage the cluch lever and should have a good snap.

Well well
After i got the adjustment plate loose . I did find the 2 lock nuts . I really was worried i would twist them off so i used a very small ratchet . It worked i got both loose and tapped on the pressure plate with a small hammer . So i just guessed i would turn it 1 full rotation and then check it well i turned it fron 12 oclock to about 5 oclock . An i just thought id check the clutch leaver . It was to tight it would not snap over so i backed it up to about 3 o clock and well it snaped in just right . I put the lock nuts on and torqued to 30ft lbs it felt good when it snapped over . Just a lil tight . Got it back togather and fired up . Did a few test pushes all felt good and solid . So i let her warm up a bit then took off up the hill to do some real work . Got it going about 4pm and ran till dark . Pushed a bunch of trees small ones 6 to 12 inches some i had to dig around . Pushed a bunch of privit hedges . It was snaping branches and piling up brush . Man what a difference 3 inches makes lol . On the clutch . Its grabing hard and pushing good . This i can work with . It really felt good to be back in the seat of the 933 the rumble of the diesel engine the sound of the tracks smell of fresh cut dirt and tree branches snaping like twigs as i pushed therw the brush . I got most of it done . Just some clean up left it was a good day . Thanks to everybody involved . .it appears that the clutch disk is ok as it pushed for about 5 hrs it was very dark when i parked it

Yes, they don't usually take much to move from unadjusted to adjusted. I wish I had an oil clutch - yours looks great. Make sure you take a shovel out to clean out the track gear at the end of your shift : )

these old cats that build america , and some are still building
im pretty sure i have cat fever .it started at a young age and i have run some equipment
as a job over the years alot of cats backhoes and front end loaders 953
i always watched as a kid i looked out the window going down the hwy at all the dozers
pans graders and track hoes building the hwy systems longing to run them
i guess its a disease or something .

anyway thanks guys im sure our next adventure is right around the corner i have my eye on a dozer
i dont know if ill be able to get it but im going to try

next project is the 933 brakes an then on to the 977 clutch adjustment . im learning
i think this is going to be a good year
