Great post Hobo Groh. Cool to hear this club spans as few different ages. As many others, I too have found much valueable info here so I payed up and joined a couple weeks ago although I think I was still listed as a guest. I am 37 and married with a 3 and 5yr old and work M to F and have numerous responsibilities so I might not be able to follow everything or contribute online as much as others but I do appreciate everyone's contributions and hope to be part of learning and preserving info. In my little free time I am tearing into my grandpa's D4 7U and look forward to that.

I do not have a Cat. I do enjoy looking at the restorations and pictures many of the people post. I learn some things doing this. I have 8 John Deere tractors, 1928 D on steel to 1952 A&G. The closest I came to getting a Cat was one on this board. A nicely restored 1928 R2 with the belt drum on the back. Haven't seen one since. If the board decides to kick guests off the site, that is their decision. That is fine with me. Don't go looking at the John Deere sites, you may find something you can drive on the road and enjoy. This board needs to make their decision and do it.
Regards
Jd1a.

As a guest who benefits greatly from this site, I would suggest that guest members be given 5 free questions (posts) a year and any after that you have to pay $5 or something along those lines. That way guest members help keep this club up and going if they want questions answered. I know $5 would be well worth it for solid advice. Just a thought

Been on the sidelines on this one for awhile. Dad and I were members up until 2008, when Dad died. Lost some of the passion, and decided that I didn’t want to get magazine anymore. I have still enjoyed reading the posts and yes from time to time used the search function. Lost my job a couple of years ago, and ended up taking a substantial pay cut, so there really wasn’t any extra cash. Wife and I have made adjustments and getting to a better place. Well I finally decided and went ahead and joined. It wouldn’t have been any question at $20 a year, but had to think about it at $40

I don't think the price is unreasonable however with so many other forums [ like car repair and so on] free I suppose we all get used to thinking that everything on the net should be free.
I know thats not realistic to expect but that is a common mindset.
I'm new here and don't know how much I'll use the forum since my one machine of interest at the present time is not Cat and I may never need the forum again. It does have a Cat engine though and I may need help with that. I would not have a problem with paying something to use the forums.
Some who are thinking of joining may be wondering about the finances of the club since there has been some controversy about that subject and the release of a financial statement.
It might put some minds at ease if the new financial statement and a plan for the future of the club was posted for all to see. Paid members and guests alike.
Do you see that happening?
