Hi OM,
yes indeed, I have no explanation or experience of such reported large volume of oil loss from the engine--leaking lip seals in pumps, or piston ring seals for the crank usually take some time to transfer large volumes oil--I guess unless they are missing ???
Can only think machine was not level when the oil was refilled and checked--not sure now if the engine oil was filled by volume or dip stick checks--I feel there could be some cloud over George's explanations for some issues reported.
Now he has the machine home I think these issues need to be re-checked so as to rule out any possible observation errors.
Its easy to do a re-test and then formulate a plan of attack for any issues found to be still evident.
Would be hesitant to go ripping things apart yet without positive proof--my thoughts.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

TO-2 is considered an obsolete spec. Current is TO-4.
The only way I'd recommend the TO-2 is that we are unsure of the operation of the unit with possible engine oil contamination and you may wind up dumping that oil for repair and replacement.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
