Hi George,
thanks for the feed back, it is always great to hear when things are moving in the right direction after the dramas you have been through with this "Beastie"
Cheers,
Eddie B.
Thanks Eddie, never a dull moment over here.... So she is holding now her oil and transmission and fuel and not leaking.... Cleaned engine and am obsessed with keeping it that way...
1. Noticed that #654 exhaust manifold has a major crack and the one closet to the seat and is dripping oil out... not major but enough to make it now replaced... I have the parts and the gaskets will tackle this in the am... I need all new nuts and studs for the new exhaust manifold and will be cutting the old out so I have good access since it is cracked all the way around on #6 exhaust..
2. While I was under my hood I replaced with new Voltage regulator. My amp meter now shows with the key in the run poison -30 and moves in the red...When I turn the key to the off position while running it goes back to zero and stays put... I suspect at this point my alternator needs to be replaced... Should be pegging in the green correct. +30... Prior the gauge just sat idle in the center at zero and did not move at all in both key positions ... Any thoughts?
3. How do I do a proper coolant flush on the old girl? She seems to be getting a little hot. I wouldn't dare let her get close to overheating but want to drain clean the system and put fresh back in... Check the thermostat if she even has one in her... Its the only thing on the old girl that I did not change... Let me know what works and how to address it..
4. Lastly, I have to fix the governor adjustment for low idle... I messed with it back when I thought it was stuck and I need to find a way to make it right... When I start it she pegs and revs pretty good but when I want to just let her low idle and push the throttle lever toward the blade prior to the shut off detent she just has a hard time staying idle. She revs up and then acts like she is going to stall which forces me to bull the lever towards me. Any thoughts?? I have my service manual and will look at the screws under the cap that I adjusted and remember clockwise/counterclockwise... I just want her straightened out with idles as well...
I am just sorting out what I hope to be the final neglect issue... My prior fixes are dry still and packing are holding right... Rocker boxes and lip seals are dry as can be... Nothing more satisfying then looking at that engine and saying looks good I fixed that.... And most importantly I am not adding hydraulic fluid, engine oil. transmission oil every time I start her up.... Sorry for the long winded rant.... Appreciate any of you old timers and your advice here.....
