Sorry I didn't get a chance to visit here over the weekend. Our web site is back up and running... www.then-now.com

I found one of the bronze cores in one of our warehouses and was working on the outlet valve problem lat Friday. As soon as I get to work this morning I'll post some pictures of the solution I came up with.

This group of pictures, shows what the original outlet valve looks like, and what I have come up with for a solution when the thin metal piece can not be used again. It will require some machining, so if you do not have access to a machine shop, or a lathe of your own, you can send the valve assembly, or the entire pump, if you wish, and I'll take care of it. Do not try and grind the nut with a dremmel tool, it will not come out accurate enough and it needs to be perfect or it will not seal properly. I have included the measurements needed in one of the pictures. After the I.D. of the nut has been machined, the new valve will just press in.

If the metal piece is re-usable, this valve place can be used in place of the original round one.

This picture shows you the difference between an original valve nut, and what it has to be machined out to in order to accommodate the new valve.

G'day Mike. If the valve is 3/4" in diameter the number you need is 1P2298, used in lots of fuel pumps in 70s and 80s. Cat used a slightly bigger one ( approx. 1") in later stuff but I don't have one to measure.

Kevin

Hi Kevin, I forgot to thank you for that part number, so thanks for chiming in, too bad it is not the 3/4" one we need, if you come across the P/N for the 1" valve I'd appreciate finding out what it is after all this time on this subject.
Regards
Mike

Hello, All,

I just received my 22 fuel pump back from Then and Now. They did a great job, very quickly, great price and even took care of the details such as using OEM style fillister head screws to hold the two halves together. My recommendation would be to use their company for anything that would be applicable to one of your projects.

Best regards,

Hello gents. I have 1J3796W and the fuel pump does not work. Could you please let me know where on the pump to find the pump # 151...
I have to give Mother instructions because the tractor is in the old country and I need her to take photos for me

Cheers,
Neil

Neil, PM me your email address and I'll send you a photo of where to find the number.

I had thought there was a serial number stamped on the mounting flange of the bottom half of these pumps but a quick look didn't show it, so here is a photo of both the SW and AC pump tops side by side if that helps.

Thanks Mike, I'm like 98% sure mine is an AC, which would make it part # 2B2521 and I think that tubular filter element inside the bowl would make it the second version - was there more than one AC assy # for that?
Man, if I could rely on Ma to get the assy up to a courier in Auckland by Tues, I'd definitely do it : ) Are you flying Air NZ to LA? Last time I went back, they routed me via Air Canada Vancouver and Qantas through Sydney to Auckland (was supposed to be United through LA - oh well...
I'll pm the email - thanks!

Cheers,
Neil

Hi Neil, I just tried to email that photo to you but the new Windows 10 system I never even wanted but got dumped on me has screwed up all my files and programs so nothing is as easy as it used to be, I'll have to wait until Anna the Saint comes home and helps me.

To be honest, I have no idea if the AC pumps came in different models for the 22, I do know the AC and SW pumps are almost identical to my moronic eye, obviously there are subtle differences but they are pretty darn close, the best advice I can give you is to ask Mother to get the pump off and send it to Then and Now, the hundred bucks or what ever they charge on top of the rebuild kit is very reasonable for a time consuming repair project, so by the time you return to New Zealand Mother will have refitted the rebuilt pump and had the tractor running again!!

And hopefully posting some pictures like that one I sent two Xmases ago where the top of the tree I yanked out whacked my noggin as it went down with a fight : )
The difference between the early/late AC in my parts book (covering both 2F and 1J) is only that part that you worked on in this thread. Two parts in the early, and three parts in the late. The "filter" in the late is tubular whereas the screen in the early looks like a squashed sphere. Every other part has the same number between early/late.
Anyhoo, yes I think the strategy is to have someone pull it off, post it over here, and then I'll bring it back at Xmas and verify operation. That tractor is technically my cousin's, and he wants to put it in a museum, so I need to come up with a replacement that he can put in there.

Cheers,
Neil
