Very interesting history lesson there Mike, thanks for taking the time to share it, I just added 2 photo's for the discussion including that poorly designed pull rod you mentioned and the new one way valve just made by my Fitter and Turner neighbor to solve my problem but I think you will come up with a better design.

Did you get a chance to measure those one way valve discs while you had Ray's pump in the shop, I need to grab 3 sets of spares.

Mike, Ray's pump was different than yours. His was one of the cast aluminum AC pumps having different valves. As soon as I can get thru the snow drifts that are blocking the back building, I'll see if we might have one of the types of castings that you have so I can get the sizes from.

Tom, You can call Mike Casela. He will tell you to mail the pumps to him. He will then repair them and call you with the cost. You give him your credit card number and he ships the pumps to you. For my pump the cost was $95 plus shipping. I am very satisfied with their service. Ray

I have been working on a 22 fuel pump as well and mine is the same as Mike Meyer's with the sheet metal pull rod and same one way valve. Mike - I can't tell from the photo but it looks like your friend machined a complete new one way valve to fit the brass nut. In the attached photo is a one way valve that I sourced from a antique auto parts company and with a little machining of the brass nut it look like it will be able to do the job.

Hi Paul, that is exactly what I was looking for, are you able to get some more of those, because yes, my neighbor made a complete valve from scratch, well actually 2 of them, it was a fair bit of mucking around and took a few hours all up as there is not much metal to play with there.

Well done Paul, I knew there had to be a suitable valve in the USA somewhere.

G'day Mike. If the valve is 3/4" in diameter the number you need is 1P2298, used in lots of fuel pumps in 70s and 80s. Cat used a slightly bigger one ( approx. 1") in later stuff but I don't have one to measure.

Thanks Daryl, I just checked Cavpower in Adelaide, their price is $2.91 for 7E5346, but unfortunately it is too small for the 22 fuel pump, we need the 1" valve.
