My trans pump showed visable wear on both sides. So, I went and got a new steering and trans pump. Replaced all the O rings on them and the filter assembly and started the machine up. I gained about 40 PSI of trans pressure. I now have around 140 at full throttle.

I am not sure what to do next. Looking at the service manual leads me to the valve body, modulator valve, pressure reg valve, etc. Somewhere I am still loosing over 160 PSI.

Any suggestions or just go ahead a pull the transmission out? Think I should take out the valve body without dropping the transmission and go through it first.

I just bought this machine and I know the man who had it would use it as it with the low pressure. He would move the machine in the 10 minutes he had and come back tomorrow and do 10 more minutes work. I do not know how much damage he could have done to the trans. I see where there is a safety valve in the machine to shift it in to neutral when pressure falls below 100 PSI.

Replied by English Al on topic Trans trouble
The next step would be to remove trans top cover and take out valve groups
and change all the seals as overheating would make all the seals hard and cause loss of pressure, when I say all the valves I mean all as the last one's
on to the clutch packs are usually the culprits. I am unfamiliar your serial # but if they are like the late 69H they can be changed with the trans in situ.
Cheers Al

Yes, clean the trans top good and then take off the cover, but first start the machine and look for a huge oil leak at the pipe supplying trans ol from the filter housing to the valve pack. Reseal the complete valve pack anyway. Did you check the pump pressure as you shifted through all of the gears( F R 123)?

My machine is 85J5794. I holds about 130 to 140 PSI through the gears. As the oil warms up, it drops to just above 100 or so.

That is good news. Trans is likely okay if pressures are the same in all gears. Likely seals blown off the supply pipe to the valve.

Got the top off the trans today. Did not see an obvious gusher. I will get the valve out this evening and let ya'll know what I find.

Thanks!

You may have a problem in the modulating relief valve. Keep parts in order as they come out, wash thouroughly and make sure spools slide nice and free.

Took out the valve body today and I think I found the problem. The short tube into the side of the tractor seemed to have good seals but the long tube from the front of the valve body toward the front of the transmission housing had the front seal on it blown and the o-ring was missing about 1/3 of itself and the balance was eroded badly.

I will be rebuilding the valve body next week and putting it back together. I think this will get my pressure back. I will let ya'll know how it turns out.

Thanks a bunch for the help, it has been priceless!!!!

Yes Sid I think you will see a big improvement in trans pressure. And it will not over heat either.

Did you check to make sure the engine/trans. clutch does not need to be
adjusted?
