You need to removed the linkages and removed the bolts each side from the stering cluch and loosed the adjusting bolt under the stering cluch housing to be able turning the brake band

Nice work, A lot less rust scale than what my D4 had in clutch area, at least you can access for a good clean now.

Thanks for the action photos. Looks like you will get intimate with your D6 for sure, but very rewarding to have a better understanding of how things work.
I used to get harped on to buy a manual, which I have amassed quite a few now, as I own a couple of tractors. Best suggestion I ever received.
In your situation, we can see having a winch AND cab does not make the job very enjoyable, but we expect to see the working video soon!

Can someone with a D6 8U or 9U please estimate how much life is left in the steering clutches by looking at the adjusters, if it was my tractor and I discovered the clutch packs were not worn much, I wouldn't be scared to fill that left side compartment with diesel and let it soak for a month or 2, bolt the final drive back on along with the track frame, and give her another good flogging pulling something super heavy, that final drive has to go back on now anyway, as does the track frame.

Best advice I ever got from "edb" was try the easy fixes first, but if that clutch pack is 70% or more worn, it's a no brainer to perform open heart surgery on the old girl while you have the time and inclination.

Good to know your still after it. Never had a cab on one so no ideas how to work around that.

It was pointed out to me my brush guard/roof could be used as a lifting point on a master clutch repair rather than removing it to get a loader bucket in place above. Maybe something like that will be possible with your cab.

Maybe two holes drilled, and eyelet inserted in proper location in top.

Ended up getting the clutch pack out yesterday. We ended up stretching out two 15/16 wrenches (good old Tractor supply). It's nice having a backhoe, The break pad had to be replaced anyway. 

Now that you have the tank out of the way and given the condition of the left brake band it would be an opportune time to inspect the right side as well.

Ended up having to order springs today. The brake pads, discs and throw out bearing have come in.
