Planning my roadtrip now, battery and fuel, wrenches, camera , moderate sized hammer. Geez, feel like a little kid again! I would say this is the gut sensation that keeps us, we, collectors going! Actually moving some iron out, too make room.Amazing.

take plenty of penetrating oil or an oil can and several quarts of atf. those clutches haven't been exorcised in 10 years and are going to be stiff.

Right off we just have to get it on the low bed. Most all of the fun IS getting all the functions working and moving correctly. I find joy and enlightenment in every small victory, ultimately arriving at a working useful machine again.

at least it should start so you can lower the boom. making it travel can be done when you get it home. since it doesn't have a fairlead you can probably rig some blocks anchored to the car body and winch it on under it's own power. make a nice video? hint hint

i use /used a beam trailer to move draglines. just take off the tongue drive the crane up over the beam or pull the beam under the crane then reinstall the tongue and winch it all up at once onto the fifth wheel. the tracks on the crane would just clear the road surface. i would swing the boom up and over the cab of the truck and away we go!!!! fun days

Hopefully I am going Weds. to look. There are time constraints involved on each trip.Yes, Neil you are correct. Can't say anything about videos, would be nice. May be too busy.   PS it's got tracks, so I love it !!

Either way you're going to have a fun time Herb, resurrecting that old unit. If it's like that Unit crane, it's easy to reconfigure between crane, dragline, and shovel (if you also have the dipper). A board for the air intake or check the flap works, and a pair of vicegrips on the rack shaft and you could get it running. Remove the boom and use the rope to pull itself up on to the trailer and you're good to go.

Cheers,
Neil

Well, made it down to see this machine. Actually in good condition have to look past the rust. Clean underneath the car body. The travel problem may be a hung air chamber not letting drive in a straight motion. I am calling Empire Crane to see about parts. Little Giant is still in business under Badger./ Mannitex. I feel there is promise here. The big kick in the ass is moving the crane out. OK here we go, down the rabbit hole on another adventure!

bursitus, 2 levers on the left are 1 is swing control in the upper mechanical. . 2nd lever is travel, air controlled in the carbody. Explains how the functions are split.

Thanks for looking, Herb
