I realize    this is not mainstream Caterpillar talk. There is a 1987 Little Giant C32 crawler crane that I am interested in. The machine is easy to get to. The problem is that supposedly it will not walk. I am looking for any information, books, literature and or personal knowledge for such. I do collect other orphans of unique interest.
Thanks for your time in reading this. Help a collector with bad iron deficiency!

Rainy day here to much time to think about what never crossed my mind. What or how was power transmitted before hydrostatic drive.

Herb, there's a decent set of videos on youtube for a fellow named Jonathan W who resurrected a Unit crane, which has a lot of common features with your one - Detroit, all mechanical. If you take a swing through the videos, it might provide some additional intel on yours. For instance, in his crane, he couldn't engage the dog to drive the crane, and a clutch mechanism required freeing up to gain all the travel it needed to be adjusted properly. It's not specifically what you're looking for but it might help hopefully.

Cheers,
Neil

And this link to an excavator owned by a Tim Hoover who displays it at the HCEA show in Simcoe Ontario each year. He may have some literature and even though it's a digger, it could well have a similar undercarriage. The video says that he had to fully rebuild his undercarriage and drives so he would know a lot about them and might be able to help you trouble-shoot.

Cheers,
Neil

you need to determine if it is an independent swing and travel machine or if the swing clutches are used to travel the machine. my guess if with the dozer type undercarriage that the swing and travel are independent from one another. could just be a rusty frozen linkage or dog clutch.

Neil, thanks for the video, I did follow Johnathan W That was interesting and more enjoyable in that he found the right parts to repair the machine.

bursitis, I am still digging for info, have contacted HCEA archives, to see what they have. I don't know what style travel system they have, I do know it is air control.

Thanks everyone

I already have contacted my local dealer. They have supplied many pages of parts documents. but no operators manual. It is a start to the library.
