was piling up some brush today and the old 941 started not feeling right when moving, and thought i was hearing a new noise. started going forward and reverse trying to detect the problem, and some of the times it would just come to a sudden stop when i would put it in neutral and other times it would roll a few feet like normal. when it would come to sudden stop it would still move again when put it in gear but could tell something isnt right so i shut it down. anyone had any issues similiar to this, or any ideas what i need to be looking for?

best thing i can think of is jack the back end up and use bucket to lift the front and see if can determine if its a one side problem or center or where the problem sounds like its coming from.

any other suggestions of what i could do?

The first think check the track if no rock in rail near the sprocket if nothing remove the drain plug from final drive id there some small pieces metal in oil or bevelgear drain plug for small metal pieces too.

gonna pull the plugs in couple days i hope. will report back what i find.

used a big pry bar on the spockets and rails. didnt notice nothing out of the ordinary.

Bad cross shaft bearings or cracked support webbing in case? Or a pinion bearing.

A friend of mine had a similar problem on his 83J D4D, it turned out to be the torque converter. Just another thought, hope it's not the ring gear or broken webbing in the case.

havent forgot about this, just been busy and have decided to haul it back here to the house before i start draining and pulling stuff apart. and either been to wet or my trucker has been busy. hoping in couple of days can get it hauled but calling for rain few next 3 days.

got it home and drained the fluids this morning, trans and final drives was both clean and nothing out of the ordinary. the bevel gear department was another story. alot of metal and a few round metal chunks, a roller bearing perhaps? what do yall think and what would be my next step to figuring out the exact problem? pull the weight off the back and look into the inspection

No getting away from it, remove fuel tank and covers and get the bevel gear and steering clutches out. Then you can start to assess the damage.

i got the weight and inspection covers off and looks like its the output shaft bearings on the transmission. hard to see the gears but looks like the pinion gear might have some damage but looks like the ring gear is still good im hoping.
