Hi All,
Just thought i would share with you all what project i have been working on. A few years ago i picked up a D4 7U37855 with a stuck main and pilot motor and busted up starting clutch and that is the start.
I have the engine out and found that two of the cylinder wher rust etched into the inside of the liner, so new liners installed, in the meantime i sent the crank off to get polished, and got that back last week, and this week i got a new set of bearings turned up. Now all i have to do is put the engine back together and then start work on the backend.

Regards

Daryl

Hi All,
Thank you for your encouragement for the project.

Yes Magoman new parts are very nice to work with but they come with a price, but the good part is i know at what condition the motor is in when finished. You know the worse part is that the engine was only rebuint and done about 75hrs of running before the rain got in and seized the main and pilot motor which is rebuilt and sitting on the shelf to go back on.

One other thing is that this machine should of had is an oil clutch, but that had been removed and a dry clutch put in, so i have been chasing the bits to put it back to normal but that requires a 5000km road trip to pick them up when the borders open.

The rear end has stuck steering clutches and when i took off the inspestion cover all i could see is rust and moisture, to do this will require the removal of the ripper on the back too.

Regards

Daryl

Ouch that is a some disheartening news. Sometimes I think my old gal needs a lot of love then I get a reality check I suppose. She sure will be a nice tractor in time!

You are in "stralia"? You are not able to travel within your country right now? I am in British Columbia and we were asked to not travel even within BC but that has loosened and now it is generally regarded as ok to travel within Canada with some exceptions.

If you can close your eyes while entering the credit card number, then the outcome with new steering components is fantastic. I'm extremely happy with how my 5U steers. Both the clutches which have a satisfyingly firm and direct response, and the brakes which only require a light feather-in to reach lockup are well worth the $ to me. I'm not capable of taking something apart and putting it back together not done right - a character flaw amongst many I suppose...

Cheers,
Neil

-that's not a character flaw Neil

-i know the satisfying feeling you're talking about, i had a very weak brake, turned out it was just an adjustment but what a difference in operating, just a tap like you say, very nice!

I agree Neil, my 5U has the General Gear bimetallic clutch plates and new Cat brake linings, it is a really nice tractor to drive, a few years ago I tried to save a few bucks when I needed to get a brake band relined on my RD6 and had it done at a local Brake Shop using non Cat linings, it makes a racket every time I use it, while the other side is quiet.

Hi All,
I got some more work done on the 7U engine today with the crank, cam, all the timing gears, flywheel housing and oil pump in.
I hope to get the rings on the pistons and installed into the engine tomorrow.
