Thankyou Bmr, it looks like you cylinder has been sleeved, I wonder how that one was done, bored all the way through and a interference fit holding it in place, or ledge cut.
Thanks
Mike
These jugs are bored.080 over. I bought this tractor engine stuck. If needed I have many 30 jugs here in my parts pile

That's a nice problem to have, here in Australia there are not that many Thirty tractors, and certainly no one offering spare parts for them like cylinders, manifolds and pistons, a set of oversize pistons would certainly offer more options as most my cylinders are worn at least 30 thou.

If you could find a set of 35 pistons they 4 7/8" bore but will work and this might solve the sleeve difficulties

G'day Mike
Had to resleeve my Cat 30 cylinders 5 years ago & got Ingrams Automotive in Wagga to do the job , they are in Dobney ave Wagga ph 0269251911.
Cost around $700 bucks per cylinder and only took a week or so, a mate had his 30 done there the year before and they didn't know that they had to drill the hole for the decompression cock.

Hello John, thanks for that info, do you remember if the sleeve went the whole length of the cylinder, or was a ledge cut to stop them possibly being pulled down? I'm sure there is a whole range of new engine adhesives around nowadays designed for holding liners in place, my old girls are lucky to do 2 or 3 hours a year light work so it's important to keep everything in perspective.
Hello Russell Turner, thanks for that info, sadly Gas 35 tractors are even rarer than the 30 in Australia, I only know of 2 or 3 of them in the whole country.
Regards
Mike

Hello John, many thanks for the schnapp, no need to rotate it, can you see any pins in that lower bore area that might have been used to secure that liner, or is it just a interference fit with some glue I wonder? I'm sure Ingrams will be happy to educate me, what's interesting is that is a full length liner, 13.5", so someone in Australia has longer liners than my initial research a year ago indicated.
All the best
Mike

Hi Mike, is it not possible to put a step at the top so the liner is held in place by the head?
Cheers,

Hello Neil, good question, I think the liner can't move up because the head gasket and head prevent it doing that, but there is always the risk a liner can be pulled downwards if there is no lip, you are relying on a interference fit, and nowadays, some fancy glues.
As you know Neil, living in the USA has many advantages at times, including when you are trying to save a old Cat, because there are so many more spare parts options there, compared to Australia and your old home country, beautiful New Zealand.
All the best

Yes, I was specifically thinking of the pulling-down scenario that a counter-bore would address. Of course, one would need to source sleeves for a counter-bore application, and for a bore of that diameter, it might be tricky. I wonder if there are large modern engines that are in the right size range whose liners could be turned down to fit?
Cheers,
Neil
