Thanks for that I will find the drain bolt by the oil filters for the block.... I want to get as much out as possible... I have the 2 hoses that need to be replaced the one off the water pump that goes up by the fan and then the other closer 2 the fan same side as water pump... I agree better to replace the hoses now then meet the dump of 20 or so gallons later.... Will it ever end???

From memory it's in line with the trans or oil cooler, maybe back toward the cab a bit.

Just an update.... Radiator on a d9g is HUGE!!!!! I got after her first with my air compressor and could not see through her even with a light. I started from the front of the tractor looking through the radiator and figured I need to be looking through the fan side and working from that as this is how the air passes over the coil...

I switched to a pressure washer and went with the white tip... I got a ton of stuff out mostly some mud and at first look it didn't look like it was clogged but I continued for a good 2 hours and still have to go back and finish her up... I move the fan by hand to get the whole honeycomb section... I am beginning when looking at an angle and see light through it... Not a ton but some.... I am being very careful not to bend fins ect.... This you would think would be easy but it is time consuming to do the proper job... Back at it in the am....

Good! some large tractors had a sand blast deflector on the inside to protect the fins from abrasives, yours may not have one, but yes the cores are on an angle or you have to look through on an angle to see through. Yea once that crap has been stuck and packed in the fins its a %$@# to get out, I always keep them cleaned out regularly.

The inside closest to the fan does not match the front of the tractor.... By the fan it looks like a diamond pattern with or honeycomb.... Of course the front has horrizontal fins all the way up.... Thank you Rome for your comment on that it is not as easy as one would first think.... Yes it is a b....!!!!! But this is part of getting and keeping her cooled off.... I will keep you all posted.... Thanks again...

Hi George,
the diamond pattern is one style of blast guard used.
Problem of compacted dust in the core come about when people use water to clean the core and do not get it fully clean--when the machine is put back to work the wet dust now mud turns solid and so is almost impossible to remove.
if you air blast, then water blast you should finish off with air again to try and get the last of the crud out--it is never easy.

Scans of air flows expected and the positions to test the flows I have loaded below should help.

Cheers,
Eddie B.

Hi Eddie, I went back over it again meaning the radiator and yes I did use my compressor to button her up.... I have very good air flow from where you show in the diagrams.... The center does not have a lot of air flow but the edges do and when it is running and I am standing at the front you can truly feel it.....

I also yesterday dropped the belly pan of the beast and lets just say it was the worst dirtiest job I have done in a long time.... The whole underside and sides and belly pan have been pressured wash. I plan on running her today or tomorrow and I have topped off the radiator with water and cat rad cleaner.... I will do 2 flushes... Prior I flushed 3 times with just water to clean her out... I hope that along with cleaning out the fins makes the difference... If not I need to overhaul the water pump I would suspect... Its not leaking or dripping but it could still be my culprit....

Thank you for your help...

Mine only had one thermostat, i put 2 new ones in and it gets up to operating temp much faster. Why wouldn't you put them in?

We used the cat recommended potion and got a fair bit of stuff out but ended up having to core it as per my other thread. We used about 3.5 bottles of the quick action stuff.

Make sure you get the oil coolers. We didn't take them off. We left one elbow attached ran water down and flushed it out that way.

Well I was working her today and was running cleaner and water in her... Fan was cleaned and re-cleaned... She is running on the green/red of the first mark...

I am tomorrow going to drop the oil coolers as I did not do that before.... I know should have will keep you posted tomorrow on what we find... I am sure after looking at some pics that it will be plugged....

Well after a long day I took apart the oil cooler and to my surprise take a look.....

Really, not a surprise but between what is stuck in the cooler and the opposite side I would say 50-70% obstruction... I believe this was the culprit. I will paint the parts pressure wash and paint side of engine and get her back together and fill her up with water and see if that does the trick.... Anybody think that's the reason it runs on the green/red line of my water temp gauge... Remember it did not have thermostats in so clearly this was a problem prior which I am not happy about but damn with all the neglect she is one tough cookie....

Let me know your thoughts and thanks to all...

Do you have a picture of the gauges?

Mine is in celsius but the trans temp one should goto 150 with 130 being the red/green line and the water temp goes to 130 where 110 is the red green line.

Which one is reading high?

The gauge is the upper left (Water Temp Gauge) and as you can see the first line from green to red it sits right there in-between and is to close for my comfort hence the getting into her more... I also show where the gauge is attatched to... On the water pump side there is a port is that the one that matches your water pressure gauge... If so I want that on mine... Bottom left would be an ideal spot on my gauges....

That gauge is what replaced the original gauge as it was faulty or so I thought.... Let me know your thoughts appreciate it....
