This is the best solution to the rusty pony motor fuel tanks I have found. Make them out of stainless steel. The filler neck is a piece of 1 1/4 pipe with 1 1/2 x 12 threads on it for the cap. The outlet is a piece of stainless steel with threads to match the sediment bowl for an outlet. I have let gas set in these tanks for over two years with no rust or discoloration. Looks just like the day it was poured into the tank. Take the mounting bracket off the old rusted out tank and TIG weld it to the new stainless steel tank. For those who want and exact replacement for the restoration purposes the rounded corners are hard to make. My corners are square and work just fine. The clean gas eliminates the crud that clogs up the carburetor.

It would be nice if somebody would scan a tank and then reproduce on a 3d printer with a fuel rated material.

The original tanks are two piece, a mold could be made to form the top and bottom and then be welded. I dont know if stainless could be press forged or not.

building a new tank is fairly easy you just get to c shapes bent up and fit them together as that has the least amount of weld to do you are limited a little in shape doing it that way but would work well and is very fast to make.
