We had a D2 and an RD6 on the farm back in the fifties with both used for moldboard plowing. The RD6 ran on land but the D2 ran the right track down in the furrow pulling its 3-16 plow. This wore the rail unevenly and driving it down the road was constantly steering it in a straight line.

Drove a TD35 for years while in HighSchool that always drifted to the left. The old timers then told me it was because the right track was worn more than the left so every time the sprocket picked up a link the actual track length pulled in was slightly longer than the left.
The also believed the reason that track was worn more than the left is because it was always on the downhill side.
Made sense to me!

Our AG D2 back in the 50's always ran in an arc on the road also. We attributed that behavior to running the right track down in the furrow when moldboard plowing many long days in the hot Kansas sun. I believe the right rail wore unevenly because the grouser would be running flat on the furrow bottom while the D2 narrow gauge was tilted drastically.
