I had my guy make up a steel stand set - one under the front that bolts to those holes on each side of the main block and has a flat underneath to hold the weight, and then another piece that bolts to two of the holes on the flywheel housing rear face. All set up so I can pull the oil pan without interference. Just made it from some old scrap pieces

Once I had it apart enough, it was put on the rotating stand. It was a bit too much though with the cylinder head and flywheel housing - it's a heavy engine for an automotive stand. You can buy heaving duty stands but you could make one with some truck wheel bearings and some stout steel

Had to go to this point to find bolts that look untouched. The flywheel has been removed, but not it's housing. Bill

That all looks very clean Bill, meaning untouched by water, bearing, or rodent infiltration. Your first tractor condition is way better than my 5U13753, despite being 20 years older

3J1 Bill, I have a D2 I am parting out. If you can use the block, pistons etc - or the main case, whatever,

You know what would be cool, would be a show including the first and last (whatever can be found as the last) D2s working together. This would also make a good, short article in the magazine describing the evolution of the design over the 20yr run of the D2

Thank you TOGNOT for the offer of parts for this project. I have been collecting parts for 3J1 for 30 years. I even converted my old chicken shed into a D2 parts building years ago, just for this early D2. I wish I could send you guys some of this cooling fog we have this morning. Try to stay in the shade! I am  beginning to work on 3J1's engine. Since I am not a diesel machanic, I will be using Squatch253 YouTube videos for information. I looked at the date code on the block to see how early it was cast. The letters are "UU  A  EC".  Using the code:  NUMERAL COD,  N=0  U=1 M=2 E=3 R=4 A=5 L=6   C=7 O=8 D=9.   This dates the block as 11-5-37.
