No such luck on upgrading the 17A tracks, your stuck with 7M,3T,17A 8.00" pitch.
You can upgrade to segmented sprockets with a 4S9005 adapter ring plus two 3S9138 and four 3S9139 segments per side if you can find them.

I kind of figured as much. I thought I had seen a 17A with the segmented sprockets but I couldn't remember for sure. Thank you for the numbers!

Some komatsu tracks will also fit the 17a- not sure which model but I have seen some converted which also provides the crocodile link making separation easy. I have some for my 17a which came with the machine and they are the same pitch as the worn ones of the machine.

Thanks for the photos from which I can see that the upper block mount for the cable blade on mine has been raised some 6" or more. Mine was a logging machine and I guess the idea was to get the blade higher for tree pushing.

Interesting blade modification on yours. Never seen that adaptation before.

Yes the pressure gauges are still available from Cat or Fleabay.

I will have to look into the komatsu undercarriages. This one spent its life in a gravel pit, and I'm assuming the D6 did too. I was wondering if they didn't have problems with the pulley block on the blade when gravel boiled over the top so they added that piece. If you look at the back of the D6 blade, that one has been added on to also.

The turbocharged 17A is one of my favorite tractors, and one that so far has eluded me. I hope you can get it.

I have two 3T and three 17A chassis. Four of them have pretty good undercarriage, definitely ten times what yours has on it. One 17A chassis I have has brand new everything, new rails, new track pads, new rollers, new carriers, new idlers. I don't think I want to part with the brand new undercarriage, as I'm saving that for when I find my own turbo 17A.

The others, however, are available. Freight from Bakersfield, California would probably be difficult. I know this guy, though, who lives in Moose Lake and makes all kind of crazy trips hauling crazy stuff, so maybe something could be worked out.

I can get measurements and pictures, if you get it and if you like.

Pete.

Thank you for the offer! If I can get it I will keep in touch. I sat on this D7 quite a few times as a kid and dreamed about operating it, so I hope I can get it! He told me the other day that he already sold it to me, and that it's ready to be picked up in the spring, but he hasn't told me a price. So we'll see.

I looked up the Komatsu tracks. Yes, they are 8.00" pitch, available with alligator link but non of the part numbers match the 7M,3T,17A numbers.
I don't have the actual dimension information to check how close they may be.

I would probably have better luck finding the correct Caterpillar rails around here anyway. The nearest Komatsu dealership is 1 1/2 hours away

Hi, Dieselholic92.
I don't have the cross-match charts to compare them but it would not surprise me if companies like Berco and Italtrack also had matching chains, sprocket rims, etc..

www.berco.com/en/home-en/

These people might be worth looking at for new or used parts:

www.tractorparts.com/

Here is a link to an "Undercarriage Basics" PDF that even shows why fitting tracks backwards increases wear on bushes and sprocket teeth - not bad even it is aimed at Dresser products - NO 8.00" pitch shown.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Thank you for the links! I will check them out tomorrow while I'm in the office. I might check into the ITR parts a little more. We have a parts dealer that we get a lot of ITR undercarriage parts through. We run their stuff on most of our dozers and excavators.

I'm told that Komatsu D60/65 chains will fit

They are coded 144 32 11133 and seem to be more available than D7 chains aftermarket
