Steve, did you replace the seals in the control lever shafts? I ahve a HT4 and I have to do those seals. I am wondering how dificult it is and what the seal numbers are?

You can cut the lines to the oil cooler and double 'em back for a quick fix as the cooler really isn't needed. There was also a discussion about eliminating the lines completely. Did a quick search and it's under D2 Oil Cooler Bypass.

I replaced the front seal only, a decision I may regret. It was leaking oil so bad I could not play with the control to see if everything else was working. Well I stopped the leak but won't know if I have other problems till I put the blade back on. I did not realize that the oil cooler was leaking too so I need to fix that and then put the blade on and find out where I stand. So I may get to take it apart again. What the heck....

Skip, I replaced the seal on a #44 once before. It is not too complicated, but you do have to remove the front cover to access and remove the control shaft. The seal is available from other sources than Cat, at a substantial savings. The Cat PN is 9F3849 which is also SKF (Chicago Rawhide) PN 11223 www.skfextranet.com/Catalogs/457010/sealdetail.asp?s=11223

Thanks for the info but because I have 2 sets of cylinders there are 2 shafts for the controls, one inside the other so I think there will be 2 seals. I was also given a seal number of 4B1925 and now you gave me a different number. I decided to call the CAT dealer and he told me if I give him the model number of the pump he will look up the numbers. This may turn into a larger job than anticipated now that the pump cover has to come off. I am still researching my options but again thank for the information.

I looked for a number on the pump to give to the dealer and can't find anything. Is ther a specific place for the model number or can anybody ID this from the picture I will try to post?

Skip,

The model number should be on a tag on the rear of the unit an inch or so below the top of the tank and in front of the radiator grill guard. Usually on the right side is where you'll find it but I've seen 'em on the other side too. It's tucked down in where it's fairly hard to see but a small mirror helps. You may have to use a toothbrush to clean it up if it's oily and dirty (usually is) in there.

Hi, I was just reading the threads about removing this hydraulic pump. I am currently working on a T51, that is the # located on the manual, i have the full serial # if required. Trying to get the hydraulics working. I was wondering what the pump pressure should be, as I have only been able to get 200psi out of it. I do not want to remove the pump until I am sure that the pump is the problem.
