Paul, I painted the container in a tan color and there is no fading, only time will tell how this custom-tinted yellow will hold up out in the sun. I know my Zieman gooseneck trailer I special ordered in hy-way yellow for a extra $500.00 has faded.:( Here is the prices I paid for the paint I am going to use on my next restoration. Aervoe Old CAT YELLOW spray cans $5.00 each, for small parts. HY-WAY YELLOW from CATERPILLAR $65.00 a gallon, for the sheet metal. Rust-OLEUM SIERRA PERFORMANCE METALMAX semi gloss custom-tint $55.00 a gallon. for engine trans. tracks and undercarriage. I am also thinking about painting a whole tractor with the SIERRA PERFORMANCE METALMAX NAVY GRAY # 238754 if there is a spray can to match.:)

Hello,
I bought the old Caterpillar spray and I compared the result with NOS Caterpillar parts and the yellow Rustoleum is more orange.
What is your opinion when you painting with the two yellow? Because I was told that the painting 40 years changes even if at the sheltered of sun.
I'm curious of know
In France it's not possible for have the Hiway yellow by the dealer Cat
Thank you

This has been in direct sun for 10 years. I just wiped the dust off with my glove and the paint looks as it did when I put it on. It shows no fading or pealing, the test spot was not sanded or cleaned and had one stroke of a brush on the radiator. Bill "HY-WAY YELLOW water base paint. From my 10-13-2010 post:
I did a test spot of this paint. I painted a rusty radiator that is in the sun all day last year. The paint still looks good with shine, (semi gloss paint). I will be using this paint on my next restoration. Mixing Base is Rust-208037-1 and the Formula is 94-LS508-09. Bill"

Back in the sixties
Peterson cat had a pyramid display of gallons of (old) Cat yellow in the parts lobby. I think it was less than $10 a gallon. I painted a Cat and several trucks with it. It faded badly after very few years. Moral: just because a Cat dealer sells it doesn't mean it is good.
