PS Is electrical system 6 or 12? Has anybody heard of Arrow Manufacturing Denver Colorado? That is the brand on the blade and hydraulics

can you tell by looking at the genny? or the voltage regulator? or the headlights? my guess is 6 volt but boy that sure is a small battery box? if it is a six volt get two of the red top optima 6 volt batty and wire them up together as 6 volts. that should fit in the box and really give you some power. and if it turns out to be 12 volt you can still use them just readjust the hookup.

That is an original battery box as I have one to put on my R4, it is a 6V battery that fits in them as the starter and generator will be 6v too.
you can fit a 12v in the box with no problems but you will have to have the generator modified to 12v

Thanks. The generator is not on at the present time anyway. I shouldnt mess up the starter if I use 12V to try to start for now?

John I had a 6 volt starter once on a TD14 that had some damage from 12 volt use. but i don't know what kind of starter the CAT used??? on the TD14 the starter was a gear reduction type and i think the damage was done from overspeed. also i remember in rebuilding that old 6 volt that it might be a good idea to remove the starter on your machine and clean and lube everything on the bench cause if it doesn't fully engage the gears you have trouble. i wish we were closer i would loan you my optima 6 volt battery.  one note about the optima is that i ordered it from optima and got it in the mail a few days later.

Well, heres the deal. I promised myself AND the wife that I would finish the cushman truckster in the shed BEFORE I started anything else. SOOOO, I think i will put the brakes on the R2 for a little while. Do some measuring and get a six volt battery. When I sold the 820 JD, my six volt battery went away. Probably a good idea to work on starter anyway.  The generator was off machine when I got it so dont know if it wasnt working or what.  Baby steps.

you can use the 6 volt battery to test the generator by hooking it up direct to the generator momentary. if the generator is good it will spin like a motor. if it has a bad spot it will turn and stop abruptly. if the brushes are stuck or bad it will just do nothing.

For future information search the thread "Can a big old delco-remey 12V generator be traced to machine issue?" The very prometon in the picture, tag is what was on the Delco used by Cat on most things in the 40's to 60's. If the tag is red , even with it not being stamped like this one it should be 12 volts. A black tag indicates it started life as the 6 volt version. I have been told the 6v can be converted to make 12 volts. But that is beyond my electric knowledge.

BLACK tag 6 volts
RED tag 12 volts

But with 50, 60, or even 70 years on all parts, there are many frugal people that are very clever. So you never no about what has been done.

Very nice looking tractor and blade. We need a place on here list all the different blades , hydraulic pumps and controls. As I don't think I have heard of the Arrow brand before. But do think I have seen another blade that could well be a Arrow product.
