D4 track chains (rails) was created by EliG
Would the track chains (rails) for a D4C XL interchange with the tracks on a D4 7U?

Thanks!

Okay, Is there any other later model track that will fit on a D4 7U, or that can be modified to fit on the D4 7U?

No, The D4U 6.75" pitch uses 2" diameter bushings. Later models use 2-1/8" diameter bushings. A change in sprockets also changes sprocket diameter.

What if you machined .125 inches off the outside of the bushing? Would it fit then? I have a Machine Shop.

no need to machine anything. check your sprockets wear pattern and compare to the dimension of the sprockets for the chains with 2-1/8 inch bushings. there is a good chance the newer chains will work with your worn sprockets. you will need to count the links in your existing chain and probably have to have one or more links removed. look at the track spec for the d4d??? or get the berco chains with smaller diameter bushings. do compare the size of the shoe bolts because you may need to get new shoes or drill out the holes in your existing shoes.

You don't want to sacrifice bushing diameter. Cat recommends grinding sprocket root 1/8" if later chains are used......or as bursitis states, worn sprockets may be a close match fit. Grouser mounting bolts will most assuredly be different.

Okay, call me stupid. Is the a reason that you cannot use the grousers that fit the 2 1/8inch chain?

different size bolts but you should confirm. the newer track groups had larger bolts. you can have yours drilled out?
