D24U Pony Motor issues

More

Evening, I picked up a D24U and got it running after a little work and used it for a day. Went back a week later and I couldn't get the pony to run without the choke all the way out. I pulled the carb and cleaned it out along with all the jets. I put it back on today and it runs without the choke being out. The new issue is the pony dies after I move the decompression lever from start to run.  Anyone seen this and was it a governor issue?

I've seen this but from a partly-blocked main jet. If the throttle control stop is on the wrong side of the throttle stud, the governor can't control the throttle properly. Easy to reassemble it wrong. Check governor belt is in place and properly tensioned, check that when the throttle control is moved to full, that the governor control rod is free to open and close the throttle by hand. The throttle control when all the way out, pulls the throttle closed, against the governor spring.

Cheers,
Neil

If I push the throttle to full, I can move the governor by hand make the engine increase RPM. I will go back and check belt tension. Thanks

That sounds good but also check when it's at partial throttle - the throttle tang should prevent the governor from opening the throttle right up. If it does that, then it's in the right relationship

Thanks for posting, love the photos. You should tie the machine down better, looks like the engine blew off! ;)

Haha. That's funny. I didn't think about that. Good thing it's 2 different dozers.

Okay. The pony fouled the plugs. Main engine still won't start. I gave a squirt of ether and it started and then died. Watched squatches videos and seen him get a 20 yo d2 running. I popped the injector pump Inspection cover off and turned the engine over by hand. The rear injector lifter is sized in the up position and the fuel control rod won't actuate back and forth.

Who knows about injector pumps.

Start spraying the injector and control rod with loose juice--let it set a couple of days and then gently pry them to get them to move and then work back and forth
