Hi, ROME K/G.
Topic creep has been a pretty regular feature of discussions on this forum ever since its inception. Someone made the suggestion - I responded.

Hi, Neil.
I always approach a tree square unless I am trying to peel it away from an existing fence, wall or other obstacle that won't allow me to get square on to it. With PAT blades, getting the tree in the middle of the blade is pretty much a must if you don't want to cause damage to rams. pivots, etc..

Azfer digging out the roots, it depends. Sometimes you may need to cut all 4 sides. If I have to cut the sides, I usually push the material toward the side from which I am going to push the tree andd use that material to build a ramp for extra leverage. It IS possible to make a ramp too steep, to the point where it saps more power than it gives you leverage.

Hi, trainzkid88.
Yes, an excavator is a good tool for pushing trees down and even for placing them - - - - - WITHIN ITS OWN WORKING RADIUS. If you have to travel to get them to a stack or a windrow, not so much. Then a dozer working with the excavator is a good idea.

With that said, a track loader gives you the best of both worlds, reach and pushing ability for stacking.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Took him a minute 40 to knock that first tree (~4 inch diameter) down with the dozer. Next time he should probably just hop out with a chainsaw and he will have it down in about 10 seconds. I wonder how fast he could do it if his injectors weren't all clogged up.

Hi Mangoman,
This is at my dad's place, he was very lucky only about 10 tiles broken and the guttering pulled off and other minor damage. But mums plants copped the lot.

Will post more photos in another post when the clean up happens.

regards

Daryl

Getting back to the origins of the thread, one wonders what a video of the accomplished commenting on the performance (non performance) of this operator would look like. I have very vague recollections of my early attempts at doing anything with a dozer, the results looking back were embarrassing to say the least.

Yes his tracks were loose, you could eat a packed lunch whilst he changed direction, and I could go on, for me it was terrible to watch. Full scale land clearing with a dozer is a dying art now days with all the clearing regulations and lack of opportunities to develop the skills, so there are fewer old experienced people with the skills.

Yes it is tired old tractor, often we have to do what we can with the tools we have available, excavators are good for a small job, a dozer is the better tool for large scale clearing.

Just my $1 worth, Wombat

Most of us have used tired old tractors more times than we wish but at least we respect them and try to use them today and still be able to use them tomorrow. The video seems that the tree goes or the Cat dies with no thought of being able to use the dozer tomorrow. More like a demolition derby than a tree clearing.
