D4 7U bevel shaft same as 955 12a?

So it looks like this is the S/N break on the different bevel gear shaft/clutch assemblies.

Fingers crossed the newer assembly will drop into my older (7u20251) housing.

Rome, that’s how they have been since I bought the backhoe. When I asked about orientation for my 10” bucket teeth I was told one way will dig better, and the other way will finish bottom of trench cleaner.

I’m no pro so I never worried about it.

Looks like 955 12A parts are gonna fit!

Gotta swap ring gear and release bearing assembly’s. Looks like 955 has a oil/grease line for the release bearing but the D47u doesn’t. Wonder if I should use the 955 release bearing assembly and add a lube port?

Im assuming the 11 disc clutch is better that the 8 disc? 8disc looks like it has a lot of life left.

Hi,
Yes, the organic lined discs look to have plenty of life, BUT the 11 disc set discs are sintered bronze facings and are not nearly as prone to sticking/rusting together if you get moisture in the steer compartments--this occurs when the machine is warm and it is left overnight and moisture laden air is drawn in as the warm air and compartment cools and so condensation occurs.
The lined and steel discs rust together.
Plenty of horror stories here about buying a resting machine and finding the main clutch and/or steer clutches and/or brakes will not let go.

There is more lining area with the sintered disc set and they are a higher capacity heavy duty and smoother clutch to use for heavy work.
