When I boarded my flight to Auckland last week I sat down beside a middle aged guy dressed in what was very obviously CAT branded clothing, needless to say, I struck up a conversation with him and It turns out that he was the general manager of Sales for TerraCAT NZ, the new distributor for CAT product here in NZ (part of the Sime Darby group) that brought out Gough's approximately 18 months ago. I talked to him about and showed him pics of the low hour D2 5U I had just brought and it turns out that he started as a workshop serviceman and then field serviceman for Goughs back in the early 2000's and had steadily risen through the ranks to the position he is now. Since our chat he sent me some very interesting archive pics which I thought I would share here:

Nice Mark! Look at those brand new 46As for the Ministry of Jerks - presumably working on the Twizel projects. There's still one there, in a park alongside an International 4 wheel tractor scraper. And that one of the D4 giant discing scrub - that's what Dad and his brother did with D2s back in the day. Worked up a lot of country out east of Masterton. My cousin's D2 had a Birtley blade on it but I don't know his serial #

Those are great pictures, I always like to see them how they are supposed to look before time and abuse take its toll

Thanks for sharing, no doubt there were thousands of photo's taken over the years, sadly most probably ended up in the dumpster.

Interesting display with the prominence of Caterpillar and the Cat surrounded by the steel tracks. John Deere definitely in the background on this display.
