Not sure what having a power shift would indicate. (Did I mention that I am a newbie at all this?) But my S/N is 59H498.

Sorry this newer format has me stepping and a fetching; Let me decipher my notes here; 12F 59H00498... The 59H prefix (series) was produced in a Canadian factory and starting production in 1966... 498 is a lower number (Cat now uses a five or more diget numeral format so 498 can also be written as 00498). pic #1 (12F Hanna04.jpg) And the US 12F series is the 73G and started production in 1965.
pic # 3 (12F Hanna01.jpg) states your series 59H is a Direct Drive Electric Start; ya might call it a manual manual transmission and a Power Shift would ba a type of hydrostate transmission... the  Electric start or Direct Start w/12, 24 and 30/32Volt starting/charging systems and glow plugs had been big selling points..more brighter lights AR, AR, AR
So in pic #2 (12F Hanna06.jpg) says both the 12F 13K and the 89H series use the 3306 with engine s/n 3N.... STICK A PIN in that for a minute.

Now in pic # 4 the US 12F 13k series starting in1967 and the Canadian12F 33K seires starting in 1968 ..

Missing pic 1; shows the 13K series and the 33K series are "Equivalent Serial/Product Identification Number Index"
Missing pic 2;  shows the 59H and the 73G seares are "Equivalent Serial/Product Identification Number Index"
Missing pic 3; The 89H series Power Shft  (1968) has no "Equivalent Serial/Product Identification Number Index"

Went out yesterday and snapped a few bad pics and vids on the 8T an 9K
The Cat No.12 8T has no tags but a casting dates of NE AR (03/54) one casting date is not a solid ID but it is a rough estimate and on these ol' rigs the more casting dates the closer one can come to a VIN and shipping date. One day I was talking to the ol' Boys over on Red Power... All things International n one ol' boy said his uncle usta work in one of the foundries in the 40's and his uncle said after pouring the casts they were warehoused for a minimum of three months to cure.so one can assume a casting date of 03/54 would be in cue to be used by 06/54. Another clue would be find a part that has multiple variants of common group types. In the Case of the 8T, has two types of governor Basic Groups with an eight (8) different variants. Sad news is the Cat SIS don't do the microfiche for the 54 Motor Grader or earlier.

Note some foundries used K insted of C for # 7

Cat c.1938 09K 009320 No.12; Chasses and engine ...pony needs total rebuild rod knocking  bad.. D4600 pull starts and moves in all gears... clutch OK ..charging system?
pony elect.start, direct drive, scarifier

Fat Dan, you are an amazing source of information! It looks like you are having fun--I hope so, at least. I appreciate your sharing--even if I am not sure what I am looking at all the time. Remember, I am not and have never been any kind of heavy equipment mechanic. I fly by the seat of my pants with Hanna, learning a I go. (As you might see from my latest post from work I was doing today on her differential case...)

Sherlock Holmes had nothing on you! :-)

dept of transportation highway yellow is the original colour used by cat. nearly all paint makers have the classic tractor colours such as ford blue, deere green, fergesson grey, ih red etc. i personally use protec 304 equipment enamel which is made by PPG coatings and the have both old and new cat yellow.
another source is e.h bare and company known today as bareco they have paints and parts for most tractor brands with stockists worldwide.

Thanks, trainzkid88. This was helpful. I found a local supplier of Rustoleum's old caterpillar yellow. Got one spray can to test.
