I think you could pack about 2,000 kgs under the nose of a D8L SA as a sandwich to help balance it, some D9N and D9R blade tractors also packed a sandwich of weights under the nose so that they could exert more down pressure on the cutting edge.

Per Wombat's info, the D8L SA parts catalog shows 4000# weight optional attachment that fits under the radiator. It would be a great article for the magazine to have a retired Cat engineer tell us about what some of their design goals were. For example, did they change the weight balance in the base tractor when it was clear that most units sold included a front dozer blade?

150 us gal is 567 litres thats just over half a tonne of liquid plust the weight of the unit itself no wonder it lifted, would be more suited to disc plows or disc offsets aka disc harrows. or a ripper or spring tine cultivators where the weight is half carried by the ground when working the impliment
