More

Wondering if Cat. actually fitted 3 Point Linkage to the D2/D4 Range of Tractors .I know of 3 Units out here in Australia with Linkage fitted , one D4 which was brought in from Great Britian and another D4 was professionaly Built in Qld ,Aust and a very late D2 is fitted with a very nice looking unit, Front Mounted Pump [not Cat Type] with Fender Tank and Controls. Maybe aftermarket fitment . Anyone any thoughts or suggestions on the Subject ? LJ

Rome made a heavy duty hitch for later tractors.

I seem to recall in addition to the Rome that Wilcox made aftermarket 3 point hitches for Cats and Farmalls.  I had a copuple on some old Farmalls but I don't recall the brand.  Be aware that connecting such a hitch to a small Cat will put a lot of weight on the back end of the tractor... probably on advisable with small/light implements.

Sorry for the spelling errors in my previous post... I will proof read them better in the future.  After posting my previous post, I remembered that aftermarket hitches for Cats and Farmalls were made by Sweco also.

Lindex was a manufacturer of three point hitches as well. I have Sweco 3 point hitches on my CASE 350B tracked sprayers. Delta KJ is correct about the weight. A neighbor had a 3 point on their CAT D4C 40A series (brand unknown). It needed serious counterweights on the front, as the back end was overloaded with a solution tank of 150 gallons.

Great job Delta on seeing the errors - not a lot of us do that, particularly with grammar which is important for meaning but you nailed it nicely - thanks!
JM - I've noticed from the sales leaflets that I have for the special ag tractors that many of them have front weights as standard offerings. I'd be curious, and this might be a research project, to know when Cat started actually changing the weight balance to recognize that most people ran dozer blades and thus moved the weight distribution more toward the rear, or whether they just tested how it played out in the field and added counterweights as field work suggested.

Cheers,

Neil: I notice that most of my SA machines have weights nicely tucked behind the grills. I’ve always wanted to ask friends across the pond how much they pack in the front of their tractors. Seems like a lot in order to use their rollover plows.
Just playing around with light items such as a ditch plow or even ripper shanks on a toolbar machine, one can feel the lightness of the front end!

I think you could pack about 2,000 kgs under the nose of a D8L SA as a sandwich to help balance it, some D9N and D9R blade tractors also packed a sandwich of weights under the nose so that they could exert more down pressure on the cutting edge.

Many parts on that 3 point linkage on the D2 look like Nuffield / BMC I would say.
