Hi there Old Magnet was wondering how you are doing!  My faithful and all knowing parts guy! If cat made a part you know it!  It is the Delco Remy.  Last time I looked into it the bracket that is on there now has a certain pulley... Might need to swap the pulley's over so it clears the bracket.  Of course it is belt driven didnt know about a gear drive alternator... I will post my serial # 66A08405
Definelty the generator not the alternator because I bought a new votage regulator not called that but it is the black box mounted closest to the instrument panel.. I know you flash it for polarization but I tried it and no luck.  My volt meter works on the draw side when glowing the plugs but when dozer is running it stuck in the 0 and doesnt budge.  So clearly she is not working...

Hi, gvanhouten.
With the work and the cash that you have put into that D9G, I don't think there would be many on this BB who would suggest dry hiring it to the previous owner. The suggestion that was made was to WET hire it to him - which means that the rump steak in the seat would be your 'favorite' rump steak, that one that you pull your boxers up over each morning - - - which would place YOU in the best possible position to take good care of the old girl.

On top of that, the previous owner pretty obviously did not care much for it when it was tired and wore out. BUTTTTT, now that it izza good runner again, he seems to 'need' it again. To do WHAT with it????????????? Beat it to death again??????????????

I would also go take a look at the work that he wants to put it into and assess for yourself what it might do to the machine BEFORE you agree to hire it AND you to the job - - -IF you choose to go down that road.

SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTH is GOOD. And remember that the pedal under your right foot is not only the 'loud' pedal but also the 'softly, softly' pedal.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

My bad, no gear drives on the 66A's. Most seem to have belt drive alternators but 66A6893 to 66A8508 did use a belt drive generator, 24v 15Amp. Do a motor test on the generator, with belt loose or off put 24v to Arm. post. Should run as a motor, touch power to field while motoring and it should speed up some. If that checks out problem is most likely with the regulator or wiring/connections. Motor test does depend on generator frame being well grounded.

Been many years since I worked on a D9G, if I remember correctly, there should be an internal lube pump in each final. Make sure both are pumping oil. If you have a way to lift the back of the machine, and with the blade, lift the front, remove the test plugs in the rear of the finals and spin the tracks, oil should shoot out.

I was curious as I recently acquired a 1969 that had been converted from pony to electric. I no sooner got it home than the starter bendix blew up. it was quite a trip getting a replacement as it's not a Cat starter as well as for me, a non-mechanic, replacing it. other than that i was amused about your comment about being in love. my wife says i love mine more than i love her. i told her it is a close call, but actually i think she loves it too as she climbed all over it when we were thinking of getting it and she is always watching the alaska gold mining reality shows and likes the big machines.

Hi, greengiant.
Sounds like you might hava 'keeper' there. You may need to get her even more addicted by teaching her to operate it.
