To begin, Happy New Year. I have a 5J5376 D2 that I am interested in adding an electric starter to the main engine. On the left lower side of the flywheel ( as seen from sitting in seat) housing, There is an image in the casting for a starter to be fitted. Soon I am going to remove the engine and while it is out of the tractor, I would like to open that casting and have it milled and 3 holes threaded for a starter. Does any one have specifications or a drawing that shows were exactly to drill the 3 holes and for the starter hole to be machined? Also what model of starter motor to use and the bendix. I would like to get it done correct the first time! Thanks, Dan

Thanks TOGNOT for the reply. I did search and I found a post going back to August of 2012 by KCB. In that post there are two pictures. The first picture is the same as the housing on my tractor. The next picture is an example of what I want to achieve. In the photo is a plate with 3 bolts. I want to machine out the hole and 3 bolt holes to be as accurate as possible. Having to look for a genset housing will be next to impossible in my part of the world! Wondering if there is a drawing available of this with the specifications. I would like to keep the pony for those minus temperature days, and to have an electric starter for the warm days.

Hi, I now have the information for machining the starter hole and bolt pattern. I have in my parts storage several Delco Starters, both 40Mt and 42Mt. Can someone advise as where I can purchase the proper Bendix and the part number. Also will the Bendix work with the same starter heads ?

J&R 220-12197R 220-12358 Bendix. Or just buy gear replace 42MT straight tooth gear..

Depends on what model and vintage starter you use. I'd recommend the 42MT with Delco 1988891 drive end housing.
