Why do the wheels have ten holes but use five studs? Are they repurposed from a different machine by Cat?

I don’t care for the extra holes, I could have 5 hole made up, but then it wouldn’t be OEM.
Plus side is you can line up the studs twice as fast. 😝

Man, that scraper looks good. Do you line in the Caterpillar 40 lettering on the headstock by hand?

Cheers,

Thank you Neil:
I would like to, but not sure if a stiff foam brush will do it? Any suggestions? The scraper was badly pitted. Sandblasted, primed and painted. I did not want to spend $$$ to have the shop use filler or do repeated sandings to smooth out the rough surfaces. It looks orange peeled, not because of the paint, but the base metal. I do not know what the previous owner did with the scraper. I am guessing it had something to do with the corrosion. Still much an improvement prior to painting. Waiting on decals from the office. I might use a different font on the other scraper when it gets painted. I actually like the thicker, rounded lettering that was used in the 60's to early 70's.

Scraper looks good. Tires look really good. To paint the Cat No 40 on the "license plate" use a roller with a really short nap and be very gentle. Surprising how good it will look.
