I don't believe the idle jet should be tapered end for those early carbs. May be why the tip breaks off.

Hi,
idle jet looks OK for square end style--be aware there are a couple of small cross drillings back on the tube towards the screw--scans below show fuel flow paths.
My experience with the idle jet is, if it is stuck in the fuel bowl drilling then it will be broken whether it is unscrewed or left in--usually sticks due to moisture attacking the pot metal and causing corrosion at the sliding surfaces
I usually apply a light tap with a small hammer to the face of the jet screw head to loosen the grip of the fiber sealing washer--this can have the effect of loosening the tube in the bowl in preparation to being very gentle and testing the screw for springiness as you try unscrewing it and can can tell you if the jet is stuck or not--heating the bowl can help release it too. I guess it is down to a lot of luck as to whether the jet is stuck or not and comes out.
Just applied this method to remove the jet in the one I tried to photograph below.

OT: I’m Back with much thanks to almost 2000 responders and over 41 dozers.
And back to our regularly scheduled discussion: Thanks for the diagrams guys They really helped me follow where the fuel was supposed to go. After drilling out the plug above the idle tube I found the passage from the idle tube to the lower cross passage was also completely plugged.
The wire in the image is through the plugged passage.

Wow
Amazing how much better it runs with a working idle circuit and properly set float level.
Pony runs great and made it possible to determine the fuel pressure spring on the transfer pump is broken. I’m not sure but it appears to be part #6B3437. Can anyone confirm that and or recommend a supplier?

WOW! that 9k is so nice
just looked at a 1938ish 9K and a 1954ish 8T but can't get close enough to look for S/N numbers
