Byron already knows I need at least 3 carbs for my boat anchors here, maybe 5 if I can sell one of my kids, I've been talking to him the past couple of months about setting up ACMOC as an official reseller of Catcave parts, something I've been hopeful of for several years, getting a formal structure to the relationship so that both the ACMOC Club and the Catcave can work together, and help each other, ideally generate some much needed income for the Club.
With over 2,500 financial members around the world, there is no better Club for contacting genuine crawler folks than ACMOC, but this Bulletin Board is not the right place to get the word out to those 2,500 members about new parts like these carbs, because only a handful of financial members use this Bulletin Board regularly, fewer than 30 financial members I've suggested in the past, use this forum weekly, maybe 100 use it monthly. Don't believe me, look through all the threads over the past 12 months.
The Club magazine, when USPS do their job properly, goes to 2,500 Cat / Best / Holt folks 4 times a year, it is read by not only those 2,500 members, but probably another 2,000 to 2,500 people, non ACMOC financial members, who see the magazine sitting in the lunch room, or as happens at my home, visit me and I pull my Cat mags out for them to read while they visit, including the ACMOC magazine and the U.K. Link Club magazine, so the market you are reaching using the ACMOC magazine is potentially 5,000 people, folks interested in old Cats / Bests and Holts, compared to maybe the 100 using this Bulletin Board.
Making parts is expensive, I know because I've made a lot over the years, but the more you can make, the cheaper it get's, so it's obvious to find out how big the market really is for these carbs, and for the new manifolds, and for the new oil pressure gauges the Catcave has talked about making, you have to talk about these projects in the ACMOC magazine, get the word out to the 5,000 people reading the magazine every 3 months, but to do that there needs to be a defrosting of the relationship between ACMOC and the Catcave.
The ACMOC BOD are flat out right now trying to save the Club financially, and are busy on all fronts trying to steer the Club back in a good direction, all volunteers, with jobs, and families, busting their buns to help save something worth saving, a Club that is now 30 years old.
I know that the new ACMOC President, Mr. Wombat, is dead keen on helping ACMOC members source new parts for our old Cats , Holts and Bests, he has a barn full of old crawlers needing TLC himself, and we all know the days of relying on toys to pay the bills are gone, so if a deal can be done where ACMOC can sell Catcave parts through the Store, or via local Chapters, and get paid a commission for each sale, then I think that will be a Win-WIN for both ACMOC and Catcave.
