We have a 4R D6 (4R1143). Underneath the HiWay yellow, it's olive drab. The previous owner said they bought it new from the dealer and it left the factory painted OD. But it didn't go into the military, it went out to a dealer for ag. It was painted yellow at the dealer. A lot of OD showing now.

I guess anything’s possible if the clutch and brake were out of adjustment bad enough, but when my brake wasn’t tight enough, I was constantly pulling the lever to lift the dozer back up so that built up the heat really quickly. I don’t think there was really anything else wrong since I tightened the brake and stopped it lowering under its own weight.

On the wartime production, sounds like the US government had contracted all production before we got “entered” in the war December 7th 1941. It’s hard to imagine the shift from civilian production coming out of the depression to filling government contracts as fast as possible!

79 years later there’s a lot more information available about several “pre-war” actions between German submarines and US convoy escorts in the Atlantic. Seems like there was an incident with the Japanese as well. Guess that’s what happens when you’re in a covert war supporting one side in every way possible short of declaring war!

WW1 had apparently really soured the American people on anything to do with Europe! Took Japan to change that and they picked the best way to do it! Then Adolf sealed the deal by declaring war on the US.

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D

-Hitlers invasion of Poland, Sept 1st, 1939

Though no formal declaration of war had been signed China and Japan were fighting through out 1937-8.
Kristallnacht (German pronunciation: [kʁɪsˈtalnaχt] or the Night of Broken Glass was on 9–10 November 1938. In my History classes we learned Kristallnacht was the turning point and the impetus for the starting of WWII and a formal declaration of war was prompted by the invasion of Poland in Sept. of 1939.

Sorry everyone but I paid big bucks for that Minor in History in collage and I so seldom get the chance to use it.
And yes, anal-retentive does have a hyphen ... my way of saying I have OCD?

Thanks Dan, I'll take any history I can get as I made it to a BS in Journalism (more BS than journalism) without a single history class. I'm not sure how I did it as I believe at least one class was supposed to be required. 0 history is no doubt a requirement for today's crop of "journalists."
