Mike, it is the RD6 that TD posted about. I’m currently working on an idea to get her home as yard art at the front of my driveway. It looks really cool and not really dented or tore to heck. I don’t know anything about the diesels but I do like the look of a cool looking dozer. The serial number is 2H3262. I found Chris Co Machinery’s website where the serial numbers and dates are. They have listed the last RD6 is 2H3247. I’m curious the discrepancy. Doesn’t really matter cause it’s still an old unit, 1937. I should still be able to get it with my hooklift truck. Listed weight is 15k lbs and with the blade it’s probably 17k-18k lbs.

Hi Karl, the last RD6 was built in 1941, 2H8966, by then I'm pretty sure they were called a D6, not RD6, there's still a few of them in the Salinas Valley, there were a lot of Cats sold in the Salinas Valley over the years.
I have a good buddy who lives on the west side of Hwy 101 in Prunetucky, he's lived there forever, raised a family and still married, whenever I visited them for a BBQ from King City I enjoyed being out of the wind for awhile and amongst the trees, while Salinas 5 minutes away would often be freezing in fog.

G'Day Karl.
There seems to be no known exact cut off date or serial no for the RD series tractors.
Perhaps the factory kept using those castings until they ran out .
Some tractors have the square brass plate on the side of the radiator with RD Cast into it .
Some followers call all 3 cyl D6's . RD6, to distinguish them from the later D6 models.
That tractor is a very neat tractor and well worth grabbing . Tractors like that are well sought after here in Australia.
A.K.

Thanks guys for the good info on the RD6. Yeah there’s a couple caterpillar tractors around here. Might have to do with there being just a few farm fields.

Grant, Attached are some pictures of the electric start and hydraulic pump set up. Whoever did the work did a very nice job on the electric start and hydraulic pump combo.
Bursitis, the scraper place is A&S metals in Castroville. I’m pretty sure they would let people salvage parts.

equipdriver, thanks for the photos of the electric start. I see what you mean by gears, belts and thingies . That is a unique set up that I have never seen before. About a year ago, I visited a ranch were the old boy had 25+ Cat 22s. I saw a bunch of different hydraulic setups, but nothing like yours. It has me thinking (which usually gets me in trouble) about a possibility. Thanks again Grant.
