I have a d4d 78a dozer, and have found a midland m86 8yd dirt pan locally. I would like to use the dozer to pull the pan, but I have no auxiliary hydraulics to operate it, and the machine doesn't have hydraulic tilt. How can I get hydraulic power to operate the pan?

I tied into the front pulley. Took the pulley off. Took it to a machine shop so they had a pattern. They made me flange the would bolt to front of crank and pulley. Can’t remember but the flange had the same size keyed shaft as the 25 gpm pump. Used a chain coupler between the two.

On my D8 Brian Boaz built me a hydraulic pump adapter to go where the generator was.

Some options....
Find a #143 93Fxxxx triple valve (35 gpm) Hydraulic Control Unit like was originally used (good luck with that).
Find a late model BEGE (rear mount) two valve hydraulic control. (equally rare)
Build a hydraulic control out of current components driven from the current pump drive, front pulley or rear mount.

isn't there a place to drive a pump on the left front of the engine? i think it drives off of the water pump drive somehow??

I imagine a person could purchase an electric hydraulic pump system and a battery or two and tack them on somewhere.

I consider myself fortunate; I got a nice 143 awhile back from a BB user that junked his D4C out, and just scored a 2 valve Be-Ge with large tank. Life is good.
***sorry for gloating. No plans to sell either, as I have plenty of uses for these pumps myself***JM

Just a word of caution if you are going to a gear drive from timing gears. Neighbours have D68u they set up. Not sure if pump was too big or relief valve too small or set too high . End result was broken timing gears, lucky it didn,t do more damage. Should be good if you can get it set up.cheers WF

Front pump as Oilslick said would be clean, have live power and not rip anything up. Good luck.

i could be wrong but i think hus tractor aleady has hydraulics for the blade. what he needs is advice on how to get remotes on the rear and valves to run them. if you want to use your hydraulic control that controls the blade then all you need is a diverter valve behind the existing valve and rear remotes plumbed into it. the only problem is you will loose blade functions while you use the scraper but all you need to do is flip the valve and you are back in business. the 7U and 6U are already equipped like this.
