Pony Motor Oil Drain

My plan is to hopefully tilt the pony like the book shows to remove and re-install the pinion. So the plan is to leave the current gasket. I bought a replacement gasket just in case, though. I'm not really sure yet how I would hoist the pony out if I did want to remove it completely.

By view of the gasket, it looks like there are 14 bolt holes.

There will be some dowel holes in that gasket too so you won’t find 14 fasteners. Just get a screwdriver, compressed air blower etc and clean all the way around on that base flange of the pony before you start.

D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time:D

Yeah, I was planning to do some cleaning before doing the job. It is pretty dirty down in that area.

Seeing as I was asking if a drain was for the pony motor oil, it would seem obvious I never changed the oil. I have owned the machine for under a year.

About pony oil. IF The rear crank seal goes bad oil will go into the pinion area. No sign of it leaking except to much oil in the pinion area. Pony parts are getting scarce, so always, always ck your pony oil before firing it up. Keep it full. How do I know.:frusty::frusty::frusty:

That's probably a project I will do here soon. I have been gaining more knowledge of my tractor since I have had it and I still don't really know how much oil the crank case holds. It seems I may need a 5 gallon bucket or more to empty it. I will also be draining out and replacing the transmission oil too. It's unfortunate the books don't seem to mention the oil capacities so a person could more easily know how many jugs or buckets of oil to purchase.

Yeah, I check my pony oil pretty much every time.

Oh, I found it. 19 quarts. It was hiding in the first couple pages of my serviceman's reference book. Maybe it was the transmission oil capacity that isn't there.
