Hi, FaCatGotHot.
I had forgotten all about that thread over on CMN. Thanks for reminding me.

Clearing photos:

The last 2 photos are of a machine nicknamed Big Lizzie preserved at Red Cliffs, Victoria, Australia. Originally built to haul wagons for freighting, it was found that she was too heavy to get across the Murray River to where she was supposed to go. She spent some years doing land clearing work around the Red Cliffs area before being abandoned, She is currently under (slow) restoration.

Hi mates,

thanks for all the feedback. That's a great help.

What's the reason behind mounting the air intakes at the rear? ROME K/G, the picture framed in red, white and blue shows two of the D9Gs used testwise in Vietnam as Rome Plow tractors. Here is a sideshot of this rig:

And also in this nice video, the used D9Ds have their air intake mounted at the fuel tank.

Deas, also thanks for sharing pictures of the Florida crusher. Given it weighs 270 metric tonnes and has two 270 HP Cat diesels (out of two D8s I suppose?), it has 2HP per tonne. Hurray. Must have been a sluggish ride?!

Another real nice land clearer was LeTourneau's A6-120 Tree Crasher nicknamed Queenie. It weighed about 60 tonnes and could carry about 90 tonnes on its rear platform and ahad a 600 HP Cummins engine. Originally designed to build roads in South America. When empty, it could go into swamps where crawlers would bog down.

Best regards,
Max

No discussion of land clearing would be complete without including the Rome Plows used for land clearing in Vietnam.
