It is a long ways over to the engine!! We run steam engines on the mill most of the day, and then the last hour or so we take the belts off for the steam and then hook up the drive shaft for the 398.

This was a test run for the first time after building the hubs and the drive shaft.

This is what runs the mill when the 398 is not hooked up.

Like i said last time, BADASS!
I was there showing a 531lb piston retaining nut wrench in the Corliss building. Its from a 5' diameter steam engine piston. I saw the "398". I got some Rollag 2021 videos on my channel. 1 these days we'll meet up.

That’s great.  I love how little the 398 cares about a 30” log.

Thanks for the video.

Hi Team,
used to love getting these on full load for the 24 hour run for standby gen set ratings for commissioning before installation in buildings--some time was also spent in overload.
The inspectors/engineers would come and observe the test run and dictate what loads etc. they wanted at the various stages of the commissioning runs.

I also love the gas engine version of these as they run so quiet in comparison to the diesel at full load except for the turbo's.
Great memories of days at work at the Dealer way back when.
Gives me yellow fever all over again, that's if it ever left.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

its a pity you cant sink into some small leaf grey iron bark timber that would test the sharpness of your saw and make make her work a bit.
that is going to be a slight issue is glazing as it wont work hard enough.
