Denying ALL access after the initial 2 month grace period might have the effect of 'annoying' some people to the point where they would tell us to delicately insert the club where the sun doesn't shine.

On another note, I don't have access to the member's register but I suspect that there are some people who are non-members but who do contribute to this BB by way of answers, ideas and information. Do you want to cut that off too?

Just my 0.02.

Personally, I have no problem "annoying" folks, if the "annoyance" is just and called for. Let them whine, but whining doesn't pay the bills.

As far as the non-members that 'contribute' by words alone...if the BOD believes that their input is critical to this forum, then designate a special classification for these 'chosen privileged few'.

"No such thing as a free lunch"...'except for the privileged few'

Mary is everyone’s ACMOC cheerleader as I call her, she is such a vibrant person and valued asset to the club. It’s her fault that I still belong! I considered asking her to be our supreme leader (no offense Andy).
She is the definite go-to-gal. She will get you hooked up. JM

OUCH

Seriously, almost every thing that has been brought up in this string is either currently in the works or being considered. Given this, I will at this time state that the Board of Directors at our June meeting did vote to retain the 3 year membership, BUT, remove the discount for the multi year renewal, it would seem that based on the content of this thread that this will not meet much resistance. This change is effective immediately, and the renewal in the store has been updated. There are more items being considered, the option of automatic renewal through credit card is being looked at, as Jan has stated in a related post, envelopes are coming back. Ballots have been sent to the members for election to next years Board. These and more are being looked at or acted upon.
When considering the Bulletin Board itself, which is arguably our most visible offering to all, how do you balance the needs of the members for open communication, with the need to use it as a tool to increase membership though showing its value as an aide to new members? Discussion has revolved around limiting access in some fashion to our "Guest" members, but how do you differentiate between a Guest that contributes heavily, and those that lurk? Some people are just not "Joiners", but are appreciated for their contribution. If we create a Bulletin Board access only membership, would this decrease those that receive a magazine, and what effect would this then have on the magazine cost, how does a web only membership support the other expenses of the club? as Juice has said, Mary gets paid from somewhere, these are the dues, are the overhead costs also included in the web membership. There is not just a single issue to consider, everything ties together at some point.
This has been one of the more constructive threads in some time, good conversation, more idea's, feedback as to actions, keep this train of thought going and more positive changes will come from it.

What if ACMOC charged a 2% on all the items sold to help generate a little more money? Do it
on a merit basis for all items sold. Just a idea to keep the club going.

Did you mean bought/sold via the BBoard?

Yes Gee. When you sell a tractor or parts on the BBoard you would pay 2% or what ever to ACMOC.

C$$$ is busy making $$$, his ancestors would probably say pay up and join, or else...
My own line is if you can’t pay now, you pay later, but never is not an option!

I just joined yesterday, it was worth the $40 just to have Old Magnet help me find out what year the old D6 9U is I am working on, and he actually gave me that info on another forum.

There has been much discussion regarding access to this website, the magazine, cash flow, and membership dues. Since I just received a notice that my membership renewal is due soon, it got me to thinking, so I'm throwing my 2 cents in...

#1) If you don't want to be a 'paying member', then you are NOT allowed to post or see photos. You are only allowed to read posts.

Addendum to #1) Allow NEW forum viewers a two month 'FREE PASS' for full forum privileges. After the two month period has expired, kick down and pay up or hit the road.

#2) Have two membership options, A) that does NOT include the magazine. B) Includes the magazine at additional cost.

#3) Instead of losing money by offering a 'discount' for a 3 year membership, INCREASE the yearly dues rate by $5 and leave the 3 year pricing as is...it's a win-win for the club.

#4) A 1 YEAR MEMBERSHIP COSTS LESS THAN A TANK OF GAS !

#5 Help support this club and become a paying member! :grouphug:

Good post resurrection....

Bernie,

Thanks for re-posting crawler $$$ post.

Status update to the copied post-

#1 is in process. No firm decisions have been made as yet but will be soon.

#2 is in place. A e-copy magazine is available as a membership for $40/yr

#3 dues have been increased and the discound for three years discontinued

#4 the annual dues are now, thanks to the Russian/Saudi flareup, probably a little more than a small tank of gas (except in CA where we still are paying through the nose!)

#5 the appeal remains and we are always willing to welcome new members!

I belong to a Dodge Ram site. I would send them 20.00 every time I got some helpful information. They were quite an innovative group and easily solved many of questions. Saved me lots of money as this group has. I totally agree. It never crossed my mind NOT to join ACMOC. Great resource for all of us.

Are you a ACMOC member with a improper title in the heading? You are listed as a non paying guest. If it is wrong let us know, we can fix it.
