Thanks Deas. I do have that book for a No. 24 cable control but it says for serials 8D1744 and up turn the drum sleeve counterclockwise, and for serials before that turn it clockwise. my serial is F4943. The book looks like it's tailored more to a D8, but I think I get the drift. I'll just turn it one way and then the other until it works. I was wondering if Old Magnet's instructions were more specific to a 9U but they don't show up in my computer.
The lock plate is resting on TOP of the head of the sleeve bolt instead of locking it in place. I lost the lift control when I ran into a rock so apparently the lack of locking was the culprit.
I would attach a pic of my lashup but when I click on "upload photos" it flashes momentarily and disappears.

You have a great day too.

Hi, Greengiant.
The basic procedure is pretty much the same for all the Cat CCUs which I have encountered:

1. Set the brake pressure/tension via the collett nut on the brake spring until it will hold the blade up through some pretty solid bumps.

2. Then set the neutral position for the brake actuation roller on the brake actuation lever using the indicator mark on the lever. This is done using the 2 nuts on the long thread on the active end of the brake band. These 2 nuts are NOT for adjusting brake tension.

3. Then adjust the lift clutch so that you have about 5 1/2 - 6 inches of control lever movement to engage the clutch.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

I turned the sleeve a quarter turn counterclockwise (clockwise didn't do it) and got it to specs and it works like a charm now.
The locking strap had come loose, so that was the problem.
back to my road project. but I think I'll drag out the 3T. The 9u is just a bit light in the rocks.
btw, is it just me or is this bb's word processing a little TOO helpful? finishing the wrong words? I just now got rods and woods when I tried to type words, for example. I know I'm a sloppy typer, even tho I do it for a living, but still....
