Got the truck for $700. Got it running pretty good, 4X4 working & everything...

Should suffice while I dig my big pond this summer.

Unless you are commercial and plackarded etc for that much fuel, I think you're not legal..

Believe it's 110 gallons capacity limit to stay out of the regulations.

I may not know the "REAL" facts though.

I don't even wanta think what it would cost to fill that tank up.....

I forgot to mention this truck is only for my lot...

Drive to the end of the driveway, get it filled by a tanker, then drive around when I need to fill up my equipment.

I did this instead of a trailer because I needed a 12V battery to run the fuel pump, and I can leave the truck running while doing that and not have to periodically take the battery home to charge it...

Farm grade Diesel will cost me roughly $720 to fill the tank...

We do the same thing here. Also have a 110 gallon under the toolbox tank that's legal for the road. It doesn't go very far when you're running several machines.

Yeah, this is a 285 gallon tank.

I have 4 machines that use diesel:

CAT D6C 78 Gallon Tank
CAT 225 65 Gallon Tank
Ford 575D TLB 35 Gallon Tank
Ford L8000 Dump Truck 50 Gallon Tank

228 Gallons total, lol...

So I can fill up all my machines basically once...

To be honest, the D6C is really the only one that goes through the fuel like there is no tomorrow. I have not run the 225 much yet, so not sure how that is on fuel in an 8 hour day...

ETD, Just curious what your D6 does use in Diesel for a good hard day. The D13000 in the 1H D8 would use 6 gallons per hour at max load. I have put a few 50 plus gallons days in a hard day clearing land. Of course I was young then!! The D6's and D7's in newer versions Raised both weight and Horsepower so they were close or bigger than old D8's. Other than the faster shifting power shifts I wonder how older D8's compared to newer comparable D6 &7's. The 1H D8 weighed in with blade and winch at around 44 to 46 K depending how much mud was on tracks. John D

I don't have precise numbers, but last year digging my pond, I once put in ~60 gallons after about a 12 hour day on the thing...

My Performance Handbook Edition 4 tells me that for a standard D6C High rate fuel cons. is 5.8 GpH,Medium 4.7GpH, Low 3.5GPH.
For a D6C SA is 9.6, 7.2, 4.8 GpH.
These relate to a load factor described as :-
HIGH:- Steady ripping, shuttle push loading, agricultural draw bar work at full throttle; little or no idling or travel in reverse.
MEDIUM:- Production dozing, pulling scrapers, most pushloading.
LOW:- Considerable idling, or travel with no load.
Tried to scan but book will not sit flat on scanner.

The only problem I see with your fuel truck is what holds the tank to the truck bed. I don't see any straps keeping it from rolling around. My first summer job with my father's const. company was to run the fuel truck. It was a Mack B61 held about 4000 gallons. This wouldn't last long when you were running 10 Euclid TS-24's and a few Cat D9"s,when the truck would run out I have to make an 70 mile round trip to the fuel depot for another load, then hurry back and finish fueling. Thinking back that was a great summer job.
