Can anybody out there suggest an efficient way to look up caterpillar bearings numbers and uses. I have thousands and I am having trouble finding out exactly what they are. I have micro-feish lists of bearings/parts but many of the bearings are not listed. There are some really old bearings and most are in boxes with numbers but I just can't find the numbers on any lists to see where they are used. If I do find the numbers on micro-feish, what they are use for is sometimes not listed. Also, I have many non-caterpillar bearings that I know are used in Cat. For instance, Federal Mogul bearings that I know are main or rod bearings replacements for early D8 and D6engines. There are way to many to list here. Thanks.

Sure wish I could help. Those old bearings are really getting hard to come by and I would hate to see them get away. About all I can suggest on the non-Cat brand bearings is to get hold of some of the old parts catalogs. Easier said than done I know. On the Cat bearings, if you can't find identification in Cat achieves it seems the only other way is to list them or search in the old parts catalogs to find the original issue part numbers. I'm sure a friendly Cat parts man (white hair) could help you out if you could find one.

I looked up a Timken bearing number by number all the way through a big bearing catalog. I found no less than 49 uses listed in the catalog for that one bearing. Two of the uses were for CAT. There was a specific section for CAT but the bearings therein were not listed by number order so I needed to look at all CAT numbers to be sure. I believe I need to find an old Federal Mogul bearing catalog. I suspect I will need a catalog for every bearing brand I have. O BOY! If I really wanted all that extra work I'd plant a damn lawn.

Just a thought, maybe guys who need bearings could post numbers from their manuals and you could check against your numbers, may save you from the horror of the LAWN!!!:) :)

I am not really trying to sell any parts but I would be willing to get rid of parts that I was positive do not fit any of the CATs my partner and I own. I do know there are parts that fit equipment we do not have. My trouble is that there is a lot of stuff that I can not find out where it fits so I do not want to part with it until I am sure. Just last week I was having fuel problems with a first year D6. It sure was nice to just wander out to the CAT box and get out a new fuel transfer pump and three new injector pumps, bolt them on and go to work with no problems. I just want to organize so I can find what I want without digging through tons of stuff I will never need.

handhewn... here are some federal mogul brg #s for the early 5 3/4 " bore engines
many are s/n specific.
rod brgs 2485AP, 3515AP
main brgs (sets) 4120M, 5006M, 4958M, 4975M
My catalogue is a 1986, if your bearings are a lot older, they may not match these newer numbers. This catalogue does reference individual brg #'s to set #'s and engine application. Hope this will help you. Ed
